I’m a New York City wedding and portrait photographer. I have my own boutique studio and shoot mostly in the city but also in CT and upstate, sometimes NJ or PA or even MA if it’s a great fit with the couple. I’m always the primary shooter, and I always bring an assistant photographer… (I don’t, in other words, send some freelancer you haven’t met to shoot your wedding while I make the money, like larger studios often do.) My mission is best summed up as this: I want to take the best pictures that anyone will ever take of you in your life, and I want you to have fun while we do it. My style is a mix of artistic documentary (storytelling coverage) with creative and flattering portraits that express your personalities and dynamic as a couple. My engagement portraits sessions are always a hit — I make a guest book for the wedding reception that feature the best portraits from your session and love watching a crowd gather to look and see all the gorgeous moments of your love framed against the amazing backdrops of NYC.

Discount: Receive $50 off an Engagement Portrait Session/Guest book package (normally 600$) or book any package valued at $3500+ for 2011, and I’ll set up my open-air Photobooth at your event for no additional cost! Guests can playfully capture themselves (with or without props) with my wireless trigger system and nifty ring light for that unique high-fashion look against a cloth backdrop. Just mention So You’re EnGAYged to get either of these discounts!

Awards: Sarah Tew has recently placed in the top ten of the “Creative Portraiture” category of the international competition of the exclusive WPJA (Wedding Photojournalists Association), of which she is an esteemed member. Her documentary stills about the NYC Sikh community in post-9/11 politics were shown at the Queens Museum of Art. She was recently featured shooting in her studio on the National Geographic Network’s series, “The Human Family Tree,” and she’s been featured in Popular Photography Magazine.

Two words: A-MAZING! Sarah is so impressive that I’m not even sure where to start. Her photos are gorgeous, she is really wonderful to work with, and her packages are a super value. She includes stuff that we didn’t think we needed, like an engagement session that makes up a photo guest book, which in retrospect I wouldn’t have wanted to live without. The engagement shoot was a great way for us all to “warm up,” and the guest book was a hit. And as a bonus, we have really nice pro shots of us together that aren’t bridal. A basic wedding album’s also included with the package we got. Sarah really took care to set up good shots, scout fun backgrounds, and direct us as necessary, but mostly let us be spontaneous, and all that shows in the photos. She was awesome at corralling our sprawling and unruly families for portraits and about getting shots that we or friends requested throughout the night, but other than that she and her assistant, Jeff, captured it all from under the radar. She was responsive and quick all along — always got right back to me, and the wedding shots were up online in a week. I can’t recommend her highly enough. -Maura & Basha
