Alison and Heather’s wedding is a week long series, part of our Real Gay Wedding blog posts.

First look- Tranquil

We had our portraits taken before the ceremony as a result of our married friend’s advice which was, “Whatever you do don’t miss your cocktail reception!”

Since I was running two hours behind schedule, our photo session was pretty much cut in half. But Jen, our awesome photographer, wasn’t miffed and off we went to snap some photos.

Apparently while I was busy being late to my own wedding, almost everything that could have gone wrong did and Heather was the only one who could take care of things. If mitzvahs are any indication of success, our marriage should last for all of eternity…it rained all day, a very large glass jar had shattered and the food for one of our tables was all wrong. She took it like a champ and never let on that there were any problems when we finally saw each other.

Getting Ready-Hectic by Alison

If I had any regrets about the day, I would say that I wish that Heather and I had gotten ready together. Since both of us were worried about the others location, the essence of the moment was overshadowed by our anticipation and expectation of the events to come. Not to mention I was two hours late…

Alison and Heather were awesome enough to give of enough info to split their wedding into 5 parts- so every day this week you’ll learn a little more about their wedding in Lambertville, NJ.

Heather and I (Alison) got married on September 27, 2009 at the Inn at the Lambertville Station in Lambertville, NJ.  We love all things vintage so the station’s late-19th century decor was the perfect location for our ceremony and reception.

We got engaged in September 2008 in the Bahamas and planned for an early fall wedding for 2009.  When we started the wedding planning process, we went for the white dress, 4-tier cake, centrepieces, place cards, DJs kinda wedding.  A “typical” wedding I supposed most would call it.  As Heather and I got more involved in the planning, many of our gay friends who want to get married were asking for advice.  They complained that there was no example to follow so I started looking for one and it lead me here, to So You’re EnGAYged.
