We just finalized our invitation decisions, so I thought I’d give you a sneak peek at what we picked! We are planning to work with Starshaped Press. They are relatively affordable as far as letterpress goes, and I love the results of their old fashioned press. Here’s the design we picked:

Getting the invitations ready!

My partner and I are super creative/crafty, so we decided to make our wedding invitations. We spent about an hour or so at our local Michael’s and found everything that we wanted. It was cost prohibitive for us to buy invitations and we don’t think they’re very ‘green’ with all of the random pieces of tissue paper, envelopes that don’t really seal, etc…. So, we will work on this crafty endeavor and I imagine it will bring us closer together!

International Country Kitsch Wedding Invitations

RSVP postcard with country twang options
What are you going to do when you don’t live in the same country as your wedding location and 98% of your guests? You enrol someone to do it for you–in our case, my amazing mom and Maid of Honor, Katie! Oh, and Vistaprint.
First of all, one of our bridesmaids, Christy, designed our INCREDIBLE country-kitsch, embroidery-themed wedding invitations. We went for using the word ‘marriage’ in the invites instead of ‘union’ even though the road to marriage equality for California will be a bit longer. Once she’d finished the basic design, she uploaded it onto Vistaprint–her recommendation–for our viewing and editing pleasure. Part of me cringes to think what kind of operation Vistaprint’s got going to be able to allow me to order so many things for free; then again, one wedding is expensive, two weddings gets even pricier! (My conscious is only slightly relieved by the fact that I can order with recycled paper, but even then…). Once we finalized the invitation and RSVP design with a tweak here and a tweak there, we agreed on the designs and got ready to order.
Destination Wedding Themes: TRAVEL
Posted on July 29th, 2010 by Brian. 2 Comments
In keeping with the tradition of wedding themes, Tom and I decided on “travel.” Afterall, everyone was going to have to really travel to get to our wedding!
For the “Save the Dates” we decided to create a magent of a postcard-type photo. With the help of Photoshop and Vistaprint, we created this:
Then it was on to the invitations. With travel in mind, I knew what I wanted to create right off the bat! I wanted to create invitations that looked like Passports – with a few alterations of course. So, I started designing in Photoshop (with the help of a few friends because I had never used it prior to this – really). After about four months of running to my friends asking how to do this or that and spending countless hours at the computer, I finally had it. My favorite part of a real passport is the watermark-like photos inside. So I used the pictures from our trip in March for our own version of the passport invitation. They came out great and really added that extra oomph while simultaneously hinting to our guests some of the charms of PV (whether they knew it or not).
Then all I needed was to find a company who could gold foil stamp my covers. After a bit of searching online, I found this company in NYC and e-mailed them. Michael at Gailer Stamping & Die Cutting contacted me stating that he’d be happy to stamp them for me so I met with him and voila – complete. (Photos below by Marta Regulski)
