Yes, this is a real engagement…but were actually featuring our very own blogger Brian!

Last month, Tom and I had our engagement shoot with the fabulous Kristina Hill, who just last week was added to SYE! She snapped us in some of our favorite spots in DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights. One of my favorite locations was the courthouse. I felt it imperative to shoot a few there in protest to the inequality we face in our home state. Those photos are my favorite!

Anyway, we just had the best time with her. And, we brought lots of fun props. I strongly suggest that all couples brings things to play with in their shoots!  We never had a dull moment and just look at some of the photos that came out of that day!!! If you are looking for a photographer, I highly recommend booking Kristina! You’ll be glad you did.

Despite being married and not actually engaged, we still jumped at the opportunity to do engagement photos – because, really, who can have too many pictures of themselves being a cute couple?!?!?!  We can’t.  We initially didn’t think we’d get a chance to do any, because we didn’t know if we were going to get to go down to the US anytime before the wedding.  But we managed to plan a quick trip and our photographer, Kelly Prizel, was able to meet us in New York  the same weekend we were there.  We went out to the Brooklyn Bridge (one of our favourites spots) and City Hall, and were lucky enough to have amazing weather (so amazing, that it seemed the entire city took advantage of it and was out on the bridge - there are a lot of other people in our pictures, which is kinda fun).

*See my foot in a cast?  Yeah.  That’s been fun.  I’m supposed to have it off two weeks before the wedding… keeping my fingers crossed.  More on that in another post.*

I was planning to submit this to SYE before I was a blogger, but then I decided to apply to write, and once I knew I’d been accepted I was so excited that I just kind of forgot about it for a while.  I find it hard to believe that happened, since I’m still so blown away by the pictures!  Ross Mantle is a friend of a friend and Stacy and I were immediately impressed with the artistry and creativity of his work.  His background is in photojournalism, and although he’s in the early stages of his career, his talent is definitely taking him places (he’s shot for the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal).  I think these pictures will explain why we were so excited when he agreed to shoot our wedding.

A big thanks to Kate McElwee Photography for sending these over. I actually spotted these in my RSS subscriber because I follow Kate’s blog but she emailed them to me before I could ask. Woot!

Chris: Kelly Alice and I met through a mutual friend, Erica. Erica, who lives in Philadelphia, actually went to college (Penn State) with KA and she also dates my very good friend Jo, who lives in New Orleans. One day Erica sends me an IM saying, “Do you like girls with tattoos?” to which I replied, “it depends on the tattoo…” Thankfully KA has good tattoos so she made the introductions and KA and I had an amazing 1st date.
