One of my favorite things about New York City is the street vendors! In a one hour lunch I got some great halal food and also scored ties for our entire wedding party for just 5 dollars each!! They were the perfect color of blue and match the girl’s sashes perfectly. We wanted to silkscreen them with the damask pattern that has become our wedding theme. So we dusted off the Yudu and got to work!

More Feathers and the Bouquet Dilemma
Posted on May 24th, 2010 by Mandy. 3 Comments
I put my feather boutonnieres up here a while ago. It was one of the first projects I got done for the wedding months ago, but since then I’ve been procrastinating on my other feather projects. Mostly because I have some problems containing the feathers every time I break them out. I make such a mess!!! Anyway, with the wedding only a few weeks away I needed to be a little more aggressive in getting some things finished.
Feather Corsages: I made some feather “flowers” for my mother, Bek’s mother and step-mother, and my grandmother (the white one).
Fascinator and Boutonnieres: Our attendants are all in grey or silver, so I made black and white feather boutonnieres and hair fascinators. There were several fascinator fails that didn’t get documented, which is a shame because they were pretty awful/funny.
My Wedding Party Attire

Sorry for the absence readers, I could bore you all with the routine reasons why I haven’t had a chance to sit down and write but lets just skip it and get back into planning mode. Joey and I have had our wedding party picked for quite some time now, in fact it was pretty much the first thing we decided on, and for us its pretty much all women. On Joey’s side he has a maid of honor and 3 women, and on my side I have 2 Maids of Honor, 1 woman and 1 man, which we have dubbed them our Groomsladies (and groomsman). In addition to them Joey’s two young nieces will be serving a ring bearer and flower girl!
Now our wedding color scheme is patterned after both traditional and non traditional Halloween palettes of Orange, Royal Purple, Black, and Chartreuse. Aside from the black its a fairly loud set of colors and ones that don’t look great on everyone (I cant pull off Orange myself, except for in small amounts). I really didn’t want the girls to go out and buy a dress they would never wear again for the sake of being matchy, and I know NOTHING about what to put on different kinds of female bodies to be the most flattering. The simplest solution was to let the girls pick their own black dress and they we would add color with a ribbon and accessories. So we selected a color for each girl (and boy) from the color scheme for them to base their accessories on. Whilst the flower girls would wear orange and purple dresses with a black ribbon.
I made up a website for the group with some example of cocktail wear from various websites all priced under $50 (most were actually under $30) and info on which color 1 inch satin ribbon they should purchase from a bridal boutique.
Chic Wedding Shrug

I am not a big fan of my arms. Even when I was riding horses multiple times a week, mucking stalls and really working those biceps and triceps, I still had a strong distaste for my appendages. They are palest of pale and prone to stress induced eczema breakouts. So, you can imagine that I started looking for jacket options the minute I ended up buying a strapless wedding dress.
Also, I wanted something that would cover my tattoo on my back. Is that weird? Don’t get me wrong, I love my ink! I just never really show it off. My tattoo is of the Tudor Rose, so it isn’t obscene; unless you find the merging of the Lancaster and York lines to form the greatest royal blood line ever witnessed in England’s history* offensive. However, with family there and all– it just seemed appropriate to find a jacket that would go ahead and cover it all the way.
I’ve looked at local dress stores, but only found oddly stiff satin jackets that made me resemble the giant marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. Finally, after months of searching, I went back to the first jacket I saw on Etsy from Crimson Empress. I’ve had this piece on my favorites list for over six months now!
