From a friend I’ve shared SYE with, Nicola Lawson:
“I am totally hooked on SYE, I love how it addresses so many issues from ‘what shall my partner and I wear’ to ‘how can we incorporate environmental awareness’ to ‘how can we raise the awareness of same sex marriage to vendors’ – I am so impressed by it. It really has made me think a lot about our own wedding in different ways.”

As a straight ally, I want to support vendors who support same-sex couples. It is also important to me to learn how to make my wedding less gendered and more affirming of my LGBT attendants and guests. So You’re EnGAYged has been an incredible resource.

The site addresses issues, questions, and dilemmas specific to LGBT couples that the wedding industry ignores. Just to know that there are other people out there wondering about the same things I am is great, but actually discussing our ideas and questions is fantastic! I also like that there are verified GLBT-friendly vendors– trying to navigate that particular course alone can be really trying.

The pictures are fantastic, I only wish the site could host more!
Finally, finally finding a helpful website that reflected me, and not because i am gay. I have found that some of the gay websites feel dated and traditional. And my feel is that most of the straight websites (online malls) is that beyond the language and graphics it is pretty traditional, somewhat silly, etc.
I just found this website and I have to tell you, I spent my lunch hour clicking on almost every single page just to get more info-which may seem strange as I do live in Massachusetts (with an assumption of having many gay friendly vendors at my finger tips) but there is something about the testimonial’s of glbt folks and a willingness for vendors to step up and be gay friendly. If there was a glbt vendor that had great food and a “unknown” vendor with slightly better food, I will always go for the glbt vendor, it matters that much to me. Nope, i am not closeted but my assumption is that if some one is a glbt friendly vendor they are probably intelligent and respectful folks to all (cranky people, non able bodied folks, etc).

As a straight ally, I have found this site a breath of fresh air in the wedding blogosphere. The mainstream wedding blogosphere gives so little thought to anyone outside the perceived norm – white, slim, straight, gorgeously designed wedding – and so little thought to the ethics behind marriage and our wedding choices that I love visiting SYE as a healthy alternative. Your bloggers (and other GLBT allies and bloggers) help me keep perspective on why we’re all doing this when the design-centered blogs drive me nuts. We’re thinking carefully about selecting vendors who reflect our values of inclusivity, sustainability and love for all, and the vendor resource guide is invaluable as a starting point. Thank you.
