As soon as I got Gold Coast Ice Cream Truck Co.’s application I knew I wanted to feature them! They are the only business to offer a truck like this in the New York area for special events only. They bring a nostalgic truck with a very modern sense of customer service & respect. Check out the interview below!
Tell us a little bit about your business!
We run an original 1967 Good Humor ice cream truck for weddings and special events in the New York area. We discovered a beat up and forgotten truck and lovingly restored to its original splendor. Our service includes ice cream for all guests, a uniformed server, and of course our fabulous vintage truck.
How did you get into doing what you do?
We started off with the idea of bringing a concession vehicle to special events. In researching different vehicles, we came across a black & white shot of a vintage Good Humor truck and it was love at first sight.
What do you wear when you’re doing what you do?
It depends on the server. Our female servers wear 60′s style uniforms with blue and white stripes- either a dress or skirt & blouse. Our male servers wear the typical good humor uniform, white pants, white shirt, black bowtie, coin changer, and hat.
What do you love about what you do?
The best part of this job is seeing reactions from people who use to run after this truck as children and perhaps haven’t seen one in over 30 years. We love hearing stories about their “Good Humor man” from way back when.
If you haven’t done a gay wedding, what would your dream gay wedding include?
My dream gay wedding would be a Spring/Summer/Fall event where everyone comes running to the sounds of our jingling bells!
Do you have a favorite “moment” that happens while you’re doing your job?
The best moment is to see our client’s and guest’s reactions when they first open the door and see our truck.
