DIY Drink Flags

Looking at other people’s weddings on the interweb convinced me that I needed white and red striped paper straws with drink flags.  (I am still not entirely sure why I needed them, but I did) So I found red and white striped paper straws that didn’t cost an arm and a leg.  However I made the mistake of not ordering them unwrapped.  It took me two hours to unwrap 500 straws!

The hardest part of this project was deciding what to put on the flags.  I wanted the straws to say cute things, but with inside meaning.  The “la la la love you” comes from a Pixies song (yes I know there is an extra la, but it looked better that way).  We both love the Pixies and had talked about it as our walking down the aisle song.  The second comes from “Push it” by Salt n Peppa, which is our song.

Materials

Paper (Source)
Double Tape
Scissors
Paper Cutter

Directions

1. Print out Template

2. Cut out the flags

3. Roll the middle of the flag against a pen to make it round, like curling ribbon

the curling, the flag should look like this in the middle

If you are using cardstock, it is important to curl the middle so that when you fold it, you don’t end up with a point (one to the right)

5. Cut the double-sided tape in half

6. Place the tape along one side and the middle of the flag

7. Wrap the flag around the straw about 1.5″ down from one end.  Line up the top right corners and press the two sides together

8. Use your fingernail to crease the flag so that it is flush against the straw

9. Cut a triangle out of the end of the flag

Done!

dang. I can’t wait to see the photos of this shindig. You’re a real pro at this crafting. For our wedding I was drowning in craft projects and my head was spinning with all the crazy details on my to do list — but you… man… this is gonna be one fab affair!

Are you sure it’s legal to have so much cuteness at one wedding? These look great!
