We did it! We are married and ready to celebrate! To be honest, the whole ceremony was pretty emotionally draining (see: recurring theme of tears). Deborah and I jumped back in the car and looked at each other, filled with joy and love and said “So… naptime?” But no naps for us! While guests were being ushered through to the back for our entrance, we took a few moments to take some more photos with our wedding party and our officiant.

Now it was time to make it 100% official and sign our wedding certificate. It was a fantastic feeling to sign under ‘bride’.

My first recap ceremony post was focused on our readings and the beginning of our ceremony.  This second post is about the second part of our ceremony.   After our first two readings, we said our vows.  They began with our officiant saying, “Will you each promise to take pride and joy at seeing the other continue to learn and grow, and when your partner’s life grows in one direction, will you try to bend and grow together?” and we responded We Will! We then said our vows.  We didn’t want to use traditional vows and agreed that writing our own vows wasn’t really for us.  Instead, we chose e.e. cummings poem “I Carry Your Heart With Me (I Carry It In My Heart)“. We chose this poem for two reasons:

1. It is gorgeous, beautiful and so well written.

2. It has a sort-of call and response that worked for our vows.

During our vows, our rings were being passed around through our guests. I have heard this called a blessing of the rings and a ring warming.  You can choose whatever term you like! Regardless of what it is actually called, this was one of the most special components of our ceremony.  It was so special to us to include all of of friends and family that had gathered with us to celebrate our marriage.

With the photos finished and guests beginning to arrive, Deborah and I were ushered upstairs for a few minutes before the ceremony began.  We watched some guests arrive for a while, and then it was time to go! The ceremony took place at the front of the Astin Mansion, and our reception was taking place in the house and out back.  Our bridesmates walked around to the front, and Deborah and I got in a vintage red car from the 1930s which drove us around.  The car was a last minute rental when we realized that we didn’t have a way to get to the back of the aisle! It was lovely, fitting, and the driver even began honking the horn as we rounded the corner. A great way to begin the ceremony!

In the car! About to get married!

Our music for the ceremony and reception was by the incredibly awesome Acoustic Production out of Houston, TX.  Our bridesmates walked down to an instrumental version of ‘Im Yours’ by Jason Mraz.

After our group photos were all said and done, we took a few photos with my parentals and then our photographer Katherine O’Brien, asked if we wanted to do a few more ‘couple photos’ before the ceremony began.  More photos?! Well, of course! Then Katherine brought out a magical suitcase filled with fun goodies she had made/brought for us. There isn’t much substance to this recap post, just sheer fun.  Enjoy!

We are using this photo for our Thank You cards (which I still need to do… sorry, Martha).
