The sign that makes brides lose their mind!

This past Friday, Running of the Brides took place at Filene’s Basement here in Atlanta, Georgia. I have to honest, it was everything that I expected. Brides Running? Check. Dresses strewn every which way? Check. Screaming, clapping, and dancing? Check, check, and check.

It's about to go down!

The day is definitely something for the memory books. I will be honest, I didn’t enjoy the actual looking for a dress (things were thrown everywhere and it was hard to manage) but you can’t help but get swept up in all the festivity.

Another row. I love the dress that it is front but it was so damn heavy!

I suggest anyone who lives in a city where these take place, just drive by and see the line. I’m not saying go in ESPECIALLY if you don’t need a wedding dress but go and drive, I tell you – it is like these ladies are training for a professional event.

What did I do to train? Nothing, I mean – anyone who knows how I do knows I like to fly by the seat of my pants…er, dress so I just got rolled up in there not quite sure what I was going to witness. Well, let me tell you – it was exactly what I imagined. Dresses piled on the floor, plastic bags thrown in stacks like they were about to be burned. Bridal brigades in matching shirts running around grabbing dresses for the brides-to-be, brides walking around in varying stages of undress attempting to find free corners to try on dresses.

I sure hope they recycle.

It was intense, it was insane, and huge! Never have I seen so much lace and tulle in one place in my life. Racks and racks and then when you thought you came to the end, there were huge inventory carts filled with dresses that were waiting to be put back on the racks.

This was one of the 8 rows there full of dresses.

There were dresses of all kinds there, the lowest discounted price ranges were $250-$699 and these dresses retail anywhere between $600-$10,000! So a deal could be had if you really are into searching for it, I (unfortunately) didn’t find anything that I really liked, well – that is a lie, I did but it was usually something another bride was wearing, so being that I couldn’t snatch it off their body, I had to let it go.

Even though, I didn’t find my dress there – I did find some styles that I liked more than the ones I originally thought. Next week, I’ll be heading to David’s Bridal, so I hope to find some similar and less war-handled.  What a way to start the weekend!

  1. I thought it was some sort of marathon running event, and was slightly disappointed until I read the full article! Sounded like a memorable experience!

It looked like it would be a lot of fun to experience, but I enjoyed having a personal appointment a little better.
My partner and I got our dresses a couple weeks ago from Alfred Angelo. I am not sure if they have stores where you are at, but if they do I would definitely recommend checking them out! They made it not seem like such a chore, and we got AMAZING dresses out of it.

    Good luck with everything!!

Dont forget about your local bridal shops…I just scored a $1400 Maggie for $59!!!!! No kidding, and it is perfect condition! I must say even though I have my gown (actually 2-I couldnt decide…lol) I might go check out my local running just to see the sights.

I also highly recommend checking out my friend’s website – Conscious Elegance – (http://consciouselegance.com/). She makes beautiful, custom-made gowns from organic and sustainable fabrics and is definitely gay friendly. Plus, her dresses are really comfortable. (I got to play dress up in them a few weeks ago.)

And… I just realized that I sound like a paid shill, but it’s actually just I ended up on the site after a friend told me that her friend’s wedding was mentioned here, and I’m still all bouncy about the dress-up.

So bouncy that I have no grammar. Make that last bit “just THAT I ended up on the site…”
