My favorite cake topper EVER in the history of weddings goes to Craig and David. Who doesn’t love the old guys from the muppets? And our pro-gay vendor The Observatory shot this fun wedding in DC.
Because we held our wedding over Labor Day weekend, it was a three-day affair. That gave us plenty of time to meet with every guest and to have the guests get to know each other, since activities began on Friday, and the ceremony itself was not
until Sunday night. The weekend kicked off with a dinner just for our families on Friday night. This was a great opportunity for everyone to get to re-acquaint themselves. We had an informal brunch for all out-of-towners at our home on Saturday. And that evening, we had a sit-down dinner at a festive family-style Italian restaurant.

We held our ceremony in the uber-modern multi-story downtown space of DC’s edgy Woolly Mammoth Theater. For most of our guests, it was their first time in the striking space, which had been totally transformed through lighting, flowers, and
furniture. At the ceremony, a string quartet provided musical accompaniment, and the grooms’ parents walked each of them down the aisle, to “Eli, Eli.” Craig’s childhood rabbi presided over the ceremony in the theater’s intimate rehearsal hall, under a simple flowered chuppah. The obvious joy Rabbi Horowitz felt to participate in the wedding was infectious. When the rabbi announced that he’d specially applied for a license to perform his first-ever wedding in DC, and that this was also his first-ever legally sanctioned same-sex wedding, the audience burst out in applause. At the reception that followed, guests enjoyed four rounds of heavy passed hors-d’oeuvres, multiple different food stations, and fabulous dancing music by the inimitable 10-piece band High Society. People danced until the very end.
If you both work and you’re very busy, hiring a planner is totally the way to go.
Don’t sweat the small stuff; what is important is having all the people you careabout around you.
You won’t run out of booze.
Our wedding cake featured the two old men Muppets, Waldorf and Stadler. The cake was not only gorgeous, but everyone enjoyed the humor. Fancy Cakes by Leslie designed it.
