Truth be told, you can meet someone amazing at the local bar. And they have been together for three lovely years.
Alaine had been preparing for the day for a few months – gathering ideas, talking to Jenna’s friends and organizing plans. It was Mardi Gras, so it was sure to be a great day. After a perfectly lazy morning, Alaine made the day’s upcoming activities seem unplanned and lured Jenna to go along with them. That afternoon they headed to John King Books in Detroit. They cruised the four story used book warehouse for a little while and then Alaine ventured off to start preparing. Alaine had created a book with photos and stories of their life together. She wrapped it up and hid it on a shelf within the books in the warehouse. When they strolled to that section, Jenna pulled the obvious, silver wrapped book off the shelf and noticed her name scrolled across it. When she unwrapped it, an infectious fairy tale smile overcame them both. As they started to look through the book, Alaine paused Jenna near the end, told her that she wanted nothing more than to spend the rest of their lives together, and asked her to marry her. And within the many floors, rows and shelves of other people’s stories, they began their own. When they walked out of the bookstore, there was a large billboard across the street that read time to engage– it really was perfect!

Since it was Fat Tuesday, they headed to Hamtramck for the best Paczkis in the state! Before going in to the bakery, they took a moment to cheers their new beginning with a bottle of Veuve Clicquot and a small picnic that Alaine had prepared. At the bakery, they waited a little over an hour in line for Paczkis, but it didn’t phase them at all because we were so giddy and having a great time laughing. On their way back home to Ann Arbor, they stopped at the Aut Bar for one more celebratory drink with their friends. This was only natural since it’s where they met!
A few months after getting engaged, they contacted Alli McWhinney to take some engagement photos. “Alli was a natural, and we appreciated her photogenic eye and the way she made us feel so comfortable. In fact we loved her so much that she’s doing our wedding photos too,” Alaine said with excitement.
