I know everyone always swoons over sunny, gold light kissed images but I love a good umbrella engagement session- this one is courtesy of our new pro-gay vendor Mosca Photo.

Amy is a planner and has to be involved in everything. This made proposing a difficult task for Danielle in finding the right element of surprise. One morning, Danielle’s mom called at 6am to tell her that she found a ring and that she wanted her to use it to propose. The ring was passed down by Danielle’s great grandmother to her grandmother in the 1920′s before she came to the US from Italy. It was given to Danielle when she was 16 but put away for safe keeping. After taking a look at it, Danielle knew this would be the ring she would use. It was unique, absolutely stunning and the right size! That set the plans in motion.

So one random Monday evening in November, Amy came home from a work meeting to find Danielle standing in the doorway with flowers and the wonderful smells of dinner (a usual occurrence). The candles were lit all over the house and their 3 cats (yes three) were dressed up in their “Christmas” outfits (yes Christmas outfits). One would think this would set Amy off, but it didn’t. When Amy found out that Danielle was making Lasagna, then she knew something was up. Danielle hasn’t made lasagna since their first date, even though she knows it’s one of Amy’s favorite foods. Danielle poured some wine as they sat down to eat and when Amy reached for it, she knocked over the ring case sitting next to the glass, shocked that she didn’t notice it until then. Danielle asked her to marry her and she said “Yes!” Danielle also pointed out that there were bridal magazines across the table that Amy also didn’t notice. Not only was this adorable, it was so thoughtful; Amy had decided she wouldn’t buy any magazines until they were engaged so these would be the very first ones she would get to look through, which she did as they opened (and finished) a bottle of wine they were saving from the vineyard they are getting married at. The picture texts and phone calls rolled out and the “congratulations” poured in.

Danielle and Amy met in December of 2008 through a mutual friend at the time. Danielle was having a small get together at her house and Amy was invited through said mutual friend for the purpose of meeting some new friends. Danielle was telling stories and making everyone laugh… she was, of course, the center of attention and Amy knew instantly that she wanted to spend more time with her.

Amy found Danielle on facebook and attempted to get in contact her and stir up some conversation through messages, but Danielle just wasn’t having it. After these failed attempts, Amy got brave and decided to write on her “wall” so that she would HAVE to respond. Her brave statement consisted of this, “I keep thinking I will run into you when I’m out, but I don’t. How can I make that happen?” To which Danielle responded with an invite back to her house for another get together to watch the premiere of L Word that coming Sunday. Over that weekend they began texting and both sides felt a spark/excitement over their interactions. Since it had been a month since they had first met/seen each other, they were very nervous for their next meeting. When Amy arrived, Danielle “coyly” designated the spot next to her on the couch as “HERS!” to each person who tried to sit there. There was instant chemistry and they set their next date that night. Over the next couple of days they continued talking and getting to know each other. The night before their big date, they talked of the phone for the first time, for 4 hours! Amy had never laughed so much; Danielle liked that Amy talked so much. They realized they had a lot of passions in common: crafts, cooking, food, wine, family and animals!

The first official date happened on Wednesday, January 21st 2009. Without knowing it Danielle made Amy’s favorite food, Lasagna, and got her favorite wine, Pinot Gris. Amy bought Apples to Apples as a gift (still a favorite today) which turned out to be a perfect way to see more of Danielle’s funny side. They ate, drank, played Apples to Apples and ended the night by watching reruns of Alf.

Amy went home extremely happy and hopeful that Danielle felt the same way. From there, they were inseparable and they both knew that this was it. Amy disclosed to their friend that she woke up every morning knowing she was going to marry Danielle. Danielle disclosed to the same friend that she knew Amy was the girl she was going to marry… all before ever even saying “I love you”!
