Jen and I will be doing lots of things ourselves for this wedding. Including utilizing all of our friends best talents. Thankfully that includes a friend with amazing design skills. We put these skills to work by asking her to design our wedding invitation…which she did…really, really well. Jen and I could not be more pleased with how our invitations came out. Like everything else in our wedding we wanted it to be us (I think the phrase “I want it to be us” should be printed on a T-shirt and passed out as favors). So we scoured the internet for inspiration photos and we eleminted thousands of things we didn’t like from color schemes to formatting. But we also found a lot of stuff we did like. We narrowed it down to two different invitation suits that we liked and then sat down with our designer friend (hereby known as Alison since, well that is her name) to discuss. Alison* was great about listening to the various reason that we liked or didn’t like the images we had found. I had gone to Paper Source and found the card stock that we would use. So we spent the night talking about content and design. We gave her as much information as possible and then told her we trusted her to come up with something great. And here’s what we got.

The RSVP card
We loved them. They were perfect for us. We really like the idea of font as design, but we had never imagined that so much could be done with it (which is why Jen and I are not designers by trade).
We used a local printer, Kendall Press, to get the invitations printed. Again they were great from start to finish. They worked with us and Alison to get us what we wanted and we had the invitations in a week and a half from first contact to final pick up. If it’s starting to sound like we had an amazing time getting our invitations done that is becuase it was an amazing time.

Look at all the pieces in the box!
After we picked up the invitations Jen and I spent a night stuffing invitations.

The hardest thing we getting the belly bands folded in the right place. Once we found a system for that it was pretty smooth sailing.
We dropped the invitations off at the post office the next day. Do you remember when I talked aobut the feeling of “no turning back” when we sent our Save The Dates? I expected something similar when we mailed the invitations. I was all prepared for the increased stress and pressure. But you know what I got instead? Excitment! Ever since sending out the invitations I have felt so excited about our wedding and people coming together to celebrate our relationship and our committment. For the first time I feel real, genuine, uncontrolable giddyness at the thought of the pending wedding. Sure I stil get a little overwhelmed from time to time. But I can’t wait to get married, and I can’t wait to do it in front of all the people we sent invitations to.
