After we made our way from dinner to the dance floor on the beach the cake was cut, toasts were given and we danced our first dance.

Now, for weeks when we were planning our wedding we struggled to find THE SONG for our first dance. The problem being Tom and I don’t really have a song. Actually, that’s not necessarily true. We do kind of have a song but it doesn’t really have the best beat to dance to and all the other renditions are pretty lousy. So we went on a mission to find something we both loved. Here were the requirements we had for our perfect song:

  1. It had to be fun and preferably more up-tempo than ballad
  2. It had to be quick (Tom is not the best dancer and we didn’t want to be out there for 5 or 6 minutes)
  3. It had to be somewhat unique (we did not want a typical first dance song)

So, after a lot of conversations and a few trial runs in the kitchen we decided on Jennifer Hudson’s hit song “Love You I Do” from Dreamgirls, the movie.  We thought it couldn’t be better! Here are just a few of the lyrics:

Never met a man
Quite like you
Doing all he can
Making my dreams come true
You’re strong and you’re smart
You’ve taken my heart
And I give you the rest of me too
You’re the perfect man for me
I love you I do

We had fun and twirled each other and laughed and it was a blast! Better yet, now we definitely have a song.
