As you may recall, the invitations to my wedding were passports and the RSVPs were boat tickets, a DIY project by me. I couldn’t pass up the chance to make take this travel theme one step further with the cake! So, I designed a cake in the shape of a suitcase with patches to highlight a few of the destinations of our lives. There were four “patches” I wanted:
- I love NY (because we live and truly love NY)
- Mexican Flag (because we were getting married in Mexico)
- Jekyll and Hyde Pub (Tom and I met working in this NYC theme restaurant)
- Cinderella’s Castle (We were honeymooning in Orlando, FL
With the help of my planner in Puerto Vallarta, we found a wonderful bakery named Pie in the Sky to take my vision and make it a reality. My chocolate, espresso reality! And boy was it a HIT!
After dinner, we all made our way back to the beach where it was displayed in the center of the dance floor. The cake was topped with my two grooms; one atop the cake lending a hand down to the other who was attempting to climb to the top. I had chosen these two specific figurines to symbolize our marriage. After all, we had just agreed to travel through our lives together as one – having them offer this gesture atop a giant suitcase seemed quite perfect.

Awww Brian that’s so cool!!! So sentimental and special! Love the two grooms…great idea!
I didn’t know you two worked and met at Jekyll and Hyde Pub (I don’t pay such good attention when great pictures distract me lol)! I love that place…we have friends that live by central park and we frequented this restaurant every time we were in the city before moving to Cali (2007-ish). It scared the bee-jesus out of my daughter lol We always made it a point to stop at every level.
