Are you ready for the procession!? Are you ready for the Town Crier!?
First, Alex and I have a confession: having the Town Crier wasn’t a big thang for us. We know Michael, he leads us through during the celebrations of Fowey Regatta Week each August, and the procession was Alex’s parents’ idea. Given all that, there was nothing that could have prepared for how utterly awesome it was when he appeared in the Fowey Hotel restaurant, ringing his bell, dressed in full regalia, ready to lead the way! Freakin’ fantastic!
Along with the Town Crier, storyteller & family friend Will brought out his Cornish bag pipes and we had our big, rainbow umbrella (our personal nod to a Pride flag). With everyone out of the hotel, we were ready to depart!
We we were walking down the Esplanade before turning down the hill into the village when the edible confetti started! Alex’s family had bought some boxes (Best Man Tom in the top photo, Alex’s dad in the bottom photo) and then other friends from the village were at the cafe we passed by had went out and bought some confetti as well!
There’s only one road through the village, passing by all the shops and cafes and restaurants. We ran in and said hello to the owners of the candy shop, waved in at different cafes and our family friend/videographer, surprised us at every turn by somehow getting ahead, again and again, of the procession to catch pieces of it on film!
Our second confession: The procession was emotionally moving. To physically have all of our family and friends behind us in support, to have the Town Crier ringing his bell and calling for applause, and people we didn’t know cheering for us, coming out of the shops while we passed–Wow. I think if anyone had any beef to pick with gay marriage in the village that day, they got a huge picture of what same-sex love & relationship looks like…
From here, we were ready to eat again and dance the night away–but not before Alex changed into her second shirt of the night, and we slopped off again for some more photos…
