The morning of the wedding…Alex slept until 7:00 am on the dot, woken up by her sister, Jordan, and her wife, Erica (not from America) with a cup of tea and singing. I woke up early with a little knot in my stomach (basically pent up excitement), sharing a king bed with my mom knowing I needed to laugh. My brother in the next room, he quickly dog-piled in with us and we all started cracking up at our VERY bad attempts at different accents. Anything to get the giggles going and the nerves down (I eventually made a joke about naming all of our kids Oliver, Ollie and Olive so that when we wanted to call them all, we could just yell ‘Olive you come here!’ and sent the text to Alex; sadly, the joke didn’t translate via text.) Regardless of our different mornings, they were both full of smiles and excited anticipation as the ‘getting ready’ happened.

The photographer, John Walmsley, said his favorite part of the day is always catching the bride while they are having their make-up done. Beautiful, simple, & still, the bride is always in good light–except that this time he had two brides to catch! He was a good sport though starting his morning early and we staggered our make-up as the same person was doing up us both in different locations. When they both arrived at the hotel shortly after the hairdresser, Freya from Tiko Lilly in Fowey, I sure knew the wedding was happening!

While my hair was getting it’s up-do treatment, my friend from home, the gorgeous Leslie (see photo below!) quickly did my mom’s toes to match mine: sparkly purple. We had manicures the day before but ran out of time for our toes! Once the hair was in place, Gill started on my make-up, and I made my way through a mimosa! Meanwhile, Mom, Paul and Leslie put the finishing touches on their looks…

Then suddenly, it was time to get dressed! Alex was outside the door! I needed to get my dress on! I shouted to my mom and Leslie from the make-up chair to get out my stockings, dress and lingerie (which John caught on camera–love it!), threw on the last of the mascara (we also had our eyelashes dyed–AWESOME.) and ran into the second bedroom to get dressed before our first meeting….

You both look so beautiful and peaceful. What is a dyed eyelash?

Apparently–new information two days pre-wedding–you can dye your eyelashes, just like you can dye your hair and your eyebrows. Alex, her mum, and I all had our eyelashes dyed black by our friend the make-up artist (apparently this is regularly offered at salons/spas etc) so we could smudge our eyes and cry without worrying too much about a face full of drippy mascara. We ended up putting on *a little bit* of mascara on the day for emphasis, but over the last few weeks I’ve hardly used mascara at all on a daily basis–it’s awesome!

That is so crazy sounding! Wedding planning has introduced me to so many things that I had no idea existed.
