I am terrible at group signings of anything (i.e. get well cards, happy bdays cards, and guestbooks). It will take me 1/2 an hour to come up with the same generic sentences as everyone else. When it came to our guestbook, I didn’t want to put that same pressure on all our guests to come up a perfect sentence. I thought by combining our faux-photobooth with the guestbook, we would end up with a keepsake that we would actually look at again. My plan is to put the ‘guestbook’ table next to the photobooth area with an adhesive.  There will be a sign encouraging our guests to stick their pictures into the book and write something if they want to. This being my plan, I only had to buy a blank book.

About a week ago, I remembered the book binding class I had taken in middle school. The final project was to bind a hardcover book with blank pages. The book I made has a total of 42 pages (84 if you count both sides). It isn’t in our color schemes and it is a little tight to fit two pictures on the same page. On the other hand, I figure I haven’t used it in the past 14 years so I might as well now. Also it is like a DIY project because I did make it, but I don’t have to spend time on it (with 29 days to go that is a major plus). My only problem is I wish it was a little bigger. Am I being too picky or should I get a bigger one?

What a beautiful book! I applaud your middle-school self.

I think your decision depends on how many parties (i.e. groups of guests) you expect to attend. Folks are likely to pose for a photo with their dates, families, or close friends. If the number of parties is low enough that there will only be a few instances of doubling-up on the photos, then go for it!

However, if every page will have to hold two photos, there will be little room for messages. In that case, perhaps you could put this lovely book to another use – maybe as the ceremony book, containing the officiant’s “script” and your vows? After the wedding, you could fill the remaining pages with mementos (pressed flowers, congratulatory cards, etc.) and have a nice keepsake of the day.

I love the idea of a wedding scrapbook! I saw one on a blog with sketches and swatches and I drooled a little bit. Maybe it can be my after wedding project.
