Thanks to Jennifer Stone Photography for being great enough to pass along these photographs and of course, Nicole for sharing with So You’re EnGAYged all the details of her and Becky’s wedding.

I am sure that most people say this, but our wedding could not have been any more perfect. From the beginning we committed to planning an event that was before all else, fun! We wanted to represent our love and the things that meant the most to us in this world: our family and friends. It was a beautiful ceremony in a small apple orchard, followed by a cocktail hour in the adjacent garden. The reception was inside to avoid any serious weather implications which provided a wonderful comfort to us. Everything was simple but beautiful and we made every effort to spend as much time with our guests as possible. We served food and wine that were humble but absolutely delicious and created small design elements to tie the whole day together.
We had an immense amount of fun on our wedding day. The smiles never left our faces and the day absolutely flew by. We were blessed to work with amazing vendors and people that took every worry away from us. Our one goal that day was to enjoy and relax we did exactly that. As we were falling asleep that night we were, more than anything else, in love and at peace with our one day in time. It was unforgettable!
The most important part of planning our wedding was making it true to who we were. We were extremely intentional about every detail and wanted each piece to have meaning attached. Above all else, we wanted it to feel personal and comfortable and just full of love and warmth. Our family and friends are immensely important to us, so logically including them in our ceremony was of the utmost importance to us.
Since we didn’t want a large wedding party, and each only had one person stand up for us, we included our friends in a different way. As a part of our ceremony we had our close friend and officiant, Darrell, combine our bouquets with ribbons blessed by our parents earlier that day. Soon after, 10 of our closest friends got up and shared feelings, memories, or wishes about our relationship and love. After each spoke, they added a single calla lily to the perimeter of our newly joined bouquet. By the time they had all spoken, we had a completely new bouquet representing all the love and warmth we were surrounded by that day and in our lives. The bouquet then became the centerpiece at our table during the reception.
Another way that we made our ceremony meaningful was our music choices. We were lucky enough that my father and cousin are musically gifted and they agreed to record the music for our processional and recessional. We chose two songs that carried a lot of meaning for us, “Kindness” by David Wilcox for the procession, and “100 Years” by Five for Fighting for the recession. We had not heard the recordings until that day and when they played walking down the aisle it was intensely beautiful. Knowing the love and care that had gone into those recordings set the tone for our entire ceremony and they are treasures we will always hold on to.
One of my favorite moments of the day was our walk to the reception. We had snuck away from the cocktail hour to shoot some pictures with our photographer. By the time we were heading back to the reception, the thick fog had settled in and it was hard to see even a few yards in front of you. We were walking across a large field, our feet getting soaking wet in the grass and the fog making us shiver just a bit. With our photographer a few paces behind us taking pictures, it was truly the first moment we had been alone since our ceremony. The fog wrapped around us and simply made us feel like we were the only two people in the world. We knew it would be our last quiet moment that night and we treasured every step.
We were so proud of our design elements for the wedding because we did so much of it ourselves with immense help from family and friends. Overall, the best design element we had were our colors. We wove chocolate brown and light blue through every small detail of our planning. From our invites and programs to our place cards, and finally, our beautiful flowers, the colors really set the tone for the day. In a sense they have become the “team colors” for our family.
I think most people at our wedding would agree that the funniest part of the day involved neither of the brides! We were lucky enough to always have a full dance floor and our wedding was a wonderful party. It went to a new level, however, when all of a sudden we heard gasps and turned around to see a close family friend lifting my mother well off the ground. They were entertaining the masses with their fantastic dancing and it became the hit of the night! The pictures are priceless and our photographer caught it just right! It was the perfect example of how carefree everyone was which was exactly what we wanted!
