Details –Painstaking but so worth it!

Heather and I are total DIYers. A good craft on a rainy day is a perfect way to spend an afternoon. We knew from the get-go that we would try to craft all aspects of this wedding from the programs to the centrepieces. We took the vintage travel theme and ran with it. It was a challenge but we had so much fun doing it. Here are some of the ideas that we came up with.

Tiny buckets holding an array of wildflowers hung from shepherds hooks that we cemented in to larger buckets to bring the “outside in” for the ceremony.

In lieu of a guest book, we found a vintage looking hollow “book” at a local craft store and asked our guest to snap a Polaroid of themselves and jot down a piece of advice to add a new “chapter to our book.” This went over big with the guests.

I created our place cards to look like vintage train tickets and pinned them to a cork board that we covered in blue velvet.

I made the table numbers look like vintage postcards from cities around the world. We made photo holders from stained wooden spools, picture hanging wire, and an alligator clip. Each postcard had a few fun facts on the back corresponding with the city on the front. The guests thought this was a good conversation starter.

Our centrepieces were lanterns we bought from Walmart. We added a candle and some fern and we were done-easy and affordable.

We created a vintage candy buffet as our favour. The table was stocked with vintage apothecary jars choc full of candy buttons, penny sticks, candy necklaces, gumballs-you name it. We stained and painted the wooden boxes to look like cargo that had just been delivered to the station. This project was so much fun to put together and it was a huge hit with our guests! This also tied in with the underlying theme of “Love is like a Spoon Full of Sugar”

We re-used the flowers from the ceremony to add a little romance to the reception.

I mentioned our custom stamps in the First Look. We originally used the idea on our wedding invitations. It went over so big that we figured we would do the same for out thank you notes. If you want to make your own stamps head over to www.zazzle.com the cost isn’t that much more than regular postage.
