Thanks to our pro gay vendor, Unusually Fine, for submitting these engagement shots- we can’t wait to see the wedding!

Jenny likes to say that we met in a bathroom and leave it at that. However this always leaves people wanting to know more. What bathroom, where were you exactly, etc. Jays version is that we met while both out dancing at a club.’ Yes, it isn’t an urban legend that you can actually meet your person while out on the town. Truth be told, Jay followed Jenny into said bathroom, hoping to chat her up in the line. But there wasn’t a line. So Jay had to awkwardly find something to do before striking up a conversation over the broken soap dispenser. The story just gets better from there (it has to right!).

After clumsily throwing Jenny off the scent months earlier, I plotted to pop the question while on vacation with Jenny’s parents at their island cabin in Seattle Washington. We kayaked out to a private beach with a homemade picnic and bottle of wine. The weather was perfect, water was calm and the beach was secluded. After enjoying the meal and wine I persuaded Jenny to practice some of our slow dancing moves on the beach and a particularly low dip put us both in the sand. It seemed like a good idea and I had seen it in movies before. Of course things never go as graceful as movies and Jenny was almost tipped off by my hamster speed heartbeat. But I pulled it together quickly and was able to suavely take the ring box from my pocket while maintaining a kiss, just long enough to get the box open and profess my love along with the ever important question. I like to think that Jenny was genuinely surprised or at east that’s how I read the high pitch squeal and fluttering feet in the air. Next thing I knew, we were both covered in sand and she said yes!

Jay and Jenny got married in Newport, Rhode Island on August 21st, 2010 after four years together!

Not that we have a draw to anti-marriage equality states, we picked the location almost on accident – But what’s done is done and you could find us at 41 Degrees North amongst the yachts. Also, not being in our hometown made this spot a weekend vacation for us and all our guests.
