Whitney and Marley met in the summer of 2009 working on a political campaign for Referendum 71 here in Washington State. Referendum 71 (R-71) was a statewide vote in which the people of Washington State confirmed Senate Bill 5688, a law extending the rights and obligations of domestic partnership to same-sex partners. Even though neither of them are particularly politically inclined, and this was the only campaign either of them was (and still) has ever been a part of, it was an excellent way to meet each other! They knew right from the start that they were both at least passionate about one common thing! After only a handful of dates, they realized that they had a lot more than that in common.

How long we’ve been together: 1 year, 2 months, and 13 awesome days

For their first anniversary as a couple, Marley and Whitney took a one night vacation to Victoria, British Columbia. It was on this trip that Whitney proposed. After an amazing day of riding mopeds around town and a lovely dinner, they returned to their hotel room where Whitney became incredibly nervous. It was then that Marley knew what was going to happen. Whitney pulled out a beautiful ring and asked Marley to spend the rest of her life with her. Marley was so ecstatic that she couldn’t say yes enough times! It was the perfect proposal- simple, sweet, and private.
Wedding date/location: Tentatively Sept 8, 2012- location TBD- but definitely in Western Washington
