Thanks so much Carly and Sarah for sending us your story!

Sarah and I met on match.com in the fall of 2007. I was traveling for the week for work, and we ended up speaking on the phone every night for hours. When we finally met after I was back, it was instant chemistry. We’ve taken it slow for lesbians; we waited a year after we started dating to move in together!

From the very beginning my grandmother adored Sarah. She was the first person in my family to meet her, and within months was asking “When are you and Sarah getting married? I won’t be around forever, and I want to be at your wedding.” As she got older, eventually this question shortened to “When?”

Two days after my grandmother suffered a stroke, Sarah and I were sitting by her bedside to give my parents a break. Grandma opened her eyes and asked “Carly?” I told her I was there, and she asked “Where’s Sarah?” Sarah assured Grandma she was right there, and then Grandma rolled over to face Sarah, took her ring off her finger, and handed it to Sarah. I think in that moment Grandma knew she wouldn’t live to see our eventual wedding, and wanted to make sure she was involved!

I proposed to Sarah a few weeks later using Grandma’s ring, and we’re getting married this October. I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone other than Sarah! She’s my everything, and while in many ways we’re different, we definitely share the same sense of humor. We like to joke that we met each other on the internet, found our dog on the internet, and plan on adopting kids from the internet! (The last part is mostly a joke).
