We have a lot of East Coast submissions to So You’re EnGAYged. So when our pro-gay vendor JB Modern Photography sent these over, I kinda melted in the gorgeous LA sun look.

We met through a mutual friend. We were drawn to each other for opposite reasons. One was a quiet observer; the other was outgoing and knew how to get a laugh. We knew from the beginning this relationship was different. We knew that whatever we had, it was right. On our next outing, (the night we first truly bonded), we were at a hip gay bar in West Hollywood. We spent the whole night talking. The place was packed, yet it felt like we were the only ones there. At the end of the night, we found ourselves staring up at the sky, debating over which constellation was the big dipper. The debate continues to this day.

From that night forward, we set aside one day a week for each other (as our work schedules were almost opposite), which we affectionately called our “BFF” days. We went to the movies, museums, snowboarding, shopping, or whatever peaked our interest. On our “BFF” days, we talked and learned about each other. The more time we spent together, the closer we became and before we knew it, we fell in love. We have been together for over two years and we have been “happy dancing” since then.

We knew our relationship was special and we spoke about getting married. Initially there was no rush; we both knew it was going to happen eventually. Thanks to the Proposition 8 madness in California, it sped up the process. We are both the type to plan out very elaborate and sweet ways to propose. It made it almost perfect when, one day we were lying on the couch watching another Proposition 8 commercial. We both looked at each other and said, “We should get married!” We were afraid if Proposition 8 passed we would not be able to marry legally. Well lo and behold, we got married (eloped) on a “BFF” day, and just in time. Luckily we were part of the 18,000 marriages that were upheld. However, it is bittersweet. We are again a minority, because our fellow gays cannot get legally married in California… yet.

We looked everywhere for the perfect place to hold our reception so we could share our love with our family and friends. Ultimately, we decided our house would be the perfect setting. We could work together with the help of our family and friends to fix up our backyard and house. What better way to connect our two lives then having memories of our loved ones helping us make our home beautiful for our reception.
