From Jessica and Joyce: We recently got married on August 22, 2010 at Windows on the Water in Sea Bright New Jersey.
We were fortunate enough to meet through two of our best friends just over 2 years ago. They saw us both through some really difficult relationships and knew that we were extremely compatible. At Asbury Park Pride they saw us “double take” while looking at each other and knew that we definitely had to meet. Not long after that they invited us both to a party and we ended up exchanging numbers (Joyce was actually more shy than Jessica so Jessica’s best friend ended up putting Jess’s number in her phone.)
During the first few times we hung out we were both too shy and nervous (which is unlike both of us) to have the courage to make the first move. So one night Jess ended up tossing a Poland Spring bottle cap at Joyce in a flirtatious manner. The next night, our first official date we ended up shaking hands at the end of the night because we were both too nervous. At the end of the same week we hung out all weekend.
Over the next year we passed the bottle cap back and forth as a joke between us. On Sunday of that weekend Jess got the courage to make the first move and kissed Joyce on her back porch steps at her house. Here we stayed locked in a kiss for two hours. Both of us immediately knew this was “the one.” Jess called Joyce’s family members a few months later and asked for permission to marry her. In February of the next year just prior to Joyce’s Birthday Jess proposed to Joyce on the back steps of Joyce’s house where we had our first kiss.
Jess put the ring in the same Poland Spring bottle cap she had thrown at her the previous summer. Over a year later we finally got married in front of our closest friends and family at a beautiful ceremony on the beach.
We ended up having rain on our wedding day but despite that the Staff at Windows on the Water were able to pull together at the last minute and give us a phenomenal ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. Our photographer Stephanie Jones has been absolutely AMAZING from engagement shots to helping us through last minute jitters and from the pictures we have seen thus far, she not only gave us some beautiful shots but also captured the amount of love and emotion shared on our day from everyone!
