Sarah and I shared our first kiss on a Friday the 13th and since then big things have always happened on the 13th of the month for us. When the 13-month-anniversary of our first kiss came around, I knew it was the perfect day to ask her to marry me. I had my good friend’s mother, who owns a chocolate store, make a chocolate engagement ring for Sarah and everything seemed to be working out. Then, I got sick. Next, Sarah got sick. The weather forecast had a flood warning for Boston, but I didn’t let it stop me! Sarah and I walked to the Boston Public Gardens, she suspecting I was going to ask her to marry me. We got to a bench where she and I had sat many times before and I began about 5 times to say the words I had written for her. Eventually, I got the question out and Sarah said yes. We jumped and hugged and kissed and Sarah got down on her knee and asked me to marry her, too. We are going to be married on Cape Code in June 2011 and I think Sarah and I are two of the only brides that will understand that everything happens for a reason if it rains on our wedding day.

We went back to the site of the proposal, which is near our apartment, for our engagement shoot. In keeping with the DIY nature of our wedding plans, we asked my maid of honor Rebecca to take the pictures for us. As you can see, she did a great job!
