So once we’d picked our gay honeymoon destination with care and consideration for just about everything we could think of, then came the time to start planning!

Well, sort of start planning it. More like start researching what we could do, where we could stay, and how we would get to Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Getting there was easy: we knew we would fly, and with limited airline companies flying from London to Dubrovnik, our flights were sorted after a quick comparison. (We went with the cheaper option of EasyJet, if you’re wondering.)

Where to stay took a little bit longer: And by a little bit longer, I mean so many loooonnnnggg hours in front of the computer searching for ‘Apartments in Dubrovnik’ or ‘Dubrovnik Apartments’ or ‘Dubrovnik Apartments Old Town Under £500 please please please.’ My eyes hurt by the end of the first night (it was a multi-night process). It eventually took both of us looking, sending a few emails to potential places, and look at pictures after pictures (fish-eye lens don’t mean the bathroom is bigger than a postage stamp!) to secure our apartment, but DAMN is it gonna be good. Third story, overlooking Old Town, the Adriatic Sea, and Croatian islands–with a balcony. Um, yeah, gorgeous. We’re already dreaming about it…

How to pay for it? Well, we’re sort of crossing our fingers. I started saving up all my tips from my restaurant job back in the fall. So far we’ve been able to pay for our tickets from Cornwall to London, London to Dubrovnik. And the tax on our wedding rings. OK, that last one wasn’t honeymoon related, but as I’m sure you’re finding, where the money is, the money goes. Hence, our Honeymoon Gift List:

Now, Alex and I have a wedding site we’ve created (using, I admit this shamefully, probably NOT a gay friendly provider) and, for various reasons, decided to make our own Honeymoon Gift List as you can see from the screen capture. We *almost* decided to use So You’re EnGAYged approved vendor Buy Our Honeymoon cause, like, their super gay friendly AND based in England (which was cool for us). I say this because while we’ve saved a little bit of cash by making our own, we have no idea if people are going to give us money for our honeymoon. Furthermore, we don’t know when we’ll get the money, as opposed to having it all in one place in a PayPal account in any currency. Cross your fingers for us (and if you want to donate to our honeymoon ‘jar’, just leave your comments below….OK, I’m kidding. Well, sort of.)

What to do once we’re there is something we’re sort of leaving up to life, the weather, us, our appetites, etc. We have thought of some stuff we’d LIKE to do. A ferry ride out to Mljet Island and the National Park for a day hiking and exploring the island. Or, have hot chocolate in one of the cafes in Lapad, sipping and snuggling in a swinging chair along the pedestrian pathway. A restaurant recommendation here, a bar recommendation there, beaches and books a plenty.

What I’m looking forward to the most, though, is being just with Alex. No phone. No internet. Nobody to see. Nothing pressing. Bring on the honeymoon…

I cannot wait for our honeymoon. I have no idea where we are going, for how long, or how we will pay for it, but relaxing together is going to be awesome.
