We got married!! On 17th April, Alex and I got hitched, signed the schedule, became civil partners, and vowed to cherish and uphold one another for all of our days together. And you know what? It was so much fun!! For a brief taster of the day (details to come, don’t you worry), a sample from the amazing John Walmsley of Cornish Wedding Photography. John had the stamina, humour and vision of a great photographer–and he was stoked to be photographing his first civil partnership!
On Friday night, Alex and I slept apart–she at her parent’s house, me with my mom and brother at The Fowey Hotel where the ceremony and afternoon were going to take place. A wonderful family friend, Gill, graciously did our make-up along with our mother’s make-up as well. Alex got all dolled up first by the light of her bay window.
After Alex was done, John and Gill came to me at the hotel. John got the detail shots of rings, shoes & lingerie while I got my hair and make-up all put together. I wasn’t carrying a bouquet, but John got a shot of me with Alex’s bouquet just before the ceremony.
Then, after the ceremony with the absolutely gorgeous weather (very fortunate for England in April!) we had champagne and strawberries in the Fowey Hotel’s Tea Garden overlooking the River Fowey and the English Channel. A little later on, Alex and I snuck off for photos at the shelter on White Hall Beach and in her parent’s house.
Once we had had afternoon tea and a Cornish story by family friend, Will, we all lined up to process through town! Alex’s parents called in a favour to the Town Crier, Michael, and he showed up in full regalia ringing his bell to carry us through! Then Will lined up behind us on the Cornish bag pipes and off we went with our big rainbow umbrella! It was absolutely spectacular. People were coming out to cheer us on the 10 minute walk through town, all our friends and family behind us, throwing the occasional edible confetti along the way.
The procession was so moving. As we arrived at the new location of the reception, Gallants Sailing Club, we wanted to welcome all our guests with a receiving line. It was totally impromptu, but it was so perfect–getting to give everyone a big hug–almost like greeting them to the next stage of the party! We did sneak off again for a few more photos–this time being invited onto someone’s boat for some photos–so amazing!
Through dinner, cake, speeches, performances and dancing, the rest of the night was blissful, joyful and downright hilarious. Recaps soon to come, darlings–I can’t wait to share all about it!

Yay! You both look amazing. I’m LOVING Alex’s shirt. And, the processional looks like so much fun! It reminds me of a New Orleans second line (on of my favorite New Orleans wedding traditions!). Obviously, I’m anxiously awaiting more recaps!
