We booked our honeymoon!!! We started saving money for our honeymoon as soon as we got engaged. This is the first time we are going on vacation, just the two of us, for a whole week. I love to plan trips, so I went into planning overdrive for this one. After discussing the pros and cons of the ski-adventure-honeymoon and the urban-touring-honeymoon, we settled on the secluded-beach-front-honeymoon. I suggested Hawaii partly because neither of us have been. Hawaii seems to be pretty gay friendly, and that was obviously really important to us for our honeymoon. I honed in on Maui and the big island, because I have to see a volcano while we’re there. While reading online reviews, I fell in love with a beautiful rental cottage across from the beach in Hana on the east side of Maui. From there, the whole trip fell into place.
Once we arrive, we will drive to Hana. I love a good road trip! Add waterfalls and beautiful views and I’m in heaven.

I am dreaming about cooking a nice meal, opening a bottle of wine, and sitting out on the lanai (porch) together overlooking this view.

Part of the reason we picked a laid back, beach honeymoon is because we didn’t want to feel guilty if all we felt like doing was holing up in our room together. But if we decide to come up for air, I’ve got some ideas for possible day trips.

Are you going on a honeymoon? What are your favorite gay friendly destinations?

‘if we decide to come up for air’… too true. While we didn’t make it to Croatia in the end (insert Icelandic volcanic ash into the mix) we did hole up for 3 nights at a Cornish farmhouse. While it wasn’t what we planned, I was so thankful for a few relaxing days away–and this place looks AMAZING!
This looks like it’s going to be an amazing trip. Nice that you get to have a mix of getaway, roadtrip, cool sights, relaxing on the beach, and holing up in your room. A little bit of everything! For our honeymoon, we’re going to roadtrip through New England for a week on our way back to canada from New York… not sure what we’ll do or where we’ll go just yet, but we’re going to try to be a little spontaneous about it.
Erica – OH NO! I’m so sorry that the volcano ashed all over your plans! I hope you still had a good time, and that you make it back to Croatia soon. I remember from your post how excited you were about it.
Wow! Beautiful! The day we spent at the Seven Sacred Pools was our favorite day!! We hiked up to a couple different towering waterfalls (beyond the seven at the bottom) that absolutely took our breath away. And along the trail — a bamboo forest! So cool!
Have an awesome trip. You’ve definitely picked the perfect place to base yourselves on the island.
