On December 12th, we entered into our second year as a committed couple and on Christmas of 2008 we made our boldest trip to midtown and arrived at Tiffany’s where Damien chose a ring and Seanmichael asked for his hand in marriage. With months of marriage counseling to go, Celebrity (our dog) on the way, and a grueling schedule for music approaching, Damien said yes and the plans begin immediately. Sunday afternoons became study time for Bridezilla, Platinum Weddings, Rich Bride/Poor Bride, Amazing Wedding Cakes, My Fair Wedding, etc. (that’s right, NFL season on the new 37 inch Samsung was a wrap). Before you knew it, we had decided on the wedding theme (Damien’s Canary, Seanmichael’s Navy, White, with the accent of Periwinkle [yes, it is a real color].
The wedding planner, Damien, began searching for venues, while Seanmichael decided on his groomsmen, which led to the groomsmen needing to be partnered up as they entered the ceremony. We have chosen some of our closest and dearest male and female friends to share in this occasion because each of them have led us to the persons we have become. Not to overly bliss the journey, we have had our share of setbacks that have challenged our relationship, but it is endurance that has led us to staying together. Through ordeals, through mistakes, through wrongdoings, through misunderstandings, through it all, we stuck it out and have made it to the point that we can say, not only can we stay together through whatever comes our way, but it is together we are both at our best and we would not want it any other way.
It is not now nor has it ever been our goal to be activist, make a political statement or be a model for same gender loving couples, it has just happen that way for us. Now with less than 6 months to go, you find us going into our 3rd year together, every Tuesday, we go out on a date, and we will eat, play, love, and have each other. We count on one another and depend our each other’s happiness. We are incomplete apart and a unit when we are together working towards a more perfect union where life together betters our life.
