I finally got a dress during a lunch break at the 80 day mark. It was really pretty and my friend started tearing up when I put it on.  I really like the Swiss dot fabric and it fits the wedding perfectly.

(Funny side note: this is the only article of clothing that I have ever tried on that fit everywhere but was too BIG in the bust. )And because we weren’t supposed to take pictures, here is the official picture from the Jim Hjelm website so you can see the ruching and the dots after the more tag.

Jim Hjelm

I need shoes and a light weight cardigan for the evening.  Someone also told me I need a necklace, like the one in the above picture, and I was thinking about making a little headband veil if there was any leftover lace from hemming the dress. However, I have never accessorized anything in my life so suggestions are welcome. I was thinking these shoes

Target
And this cardigan, but also in a light blue. I like the little bit of non-bling detail around the neck.

Old Navy

I had a Jim Hjelm bridesmaids dress as my wedding dress and it looked JUST like a wedding dress, minus the thousands of $ added. Your dress is gorgeous!!!

Yes to bling– bling it up girl!

Thank you! I don’t know why more people don’t buy bmaid dress and wear them as wedding dresses, they do look just the same!

  3. Wasabi says:

Love it! And, of course, it fits the theme and color scheme of your wedding perfectly. But I wouldn’t expect anything less from Ms. Sparrow!

  4. Christina says:

It’s lovely! I agree that you need a necklace, though I’d keep it more in the choker side of things (probably because that’s where I like to wear my necklaces). I love the Old Navy cardigan, but I wonder if it’ll look too informal with the outfit?

It is really nice to hear people like the dress because I have been having severe doubts. I was thinking about this J Crew Cardigan (http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Browse/WomenBrowse/Women_Shop_By_Category/sweaters/merino/PRDOVR~26965/99102019102/ENE~1+2+3+22+4294967294+20~~~20+17+4294967137~15~~~~~~~/26965.jsp) but I waited too long and the blue color is gone. You think cardigans all together are too causal or just that one?

  6. Alison says:

LOVE! So fabulous!!! Love the dot detail! Love the shoe choice as well. Can’t wait to see it all come together.

  7. Michelle says:

I agree with Christina about the cardigan. I think the cotton may be a little too informal. I’d look for something with a little finer thread? I bet Macy’s would have something like that!

    Hey!
So honestly, I think you will literally roast in a cardigan in the middle of July. Like, heatstroke hot. I would not recommend wearing a cardigan even though I think they are super cute and can be formal. The shoes are a total keeper. Love love love.
I would totally call upon the craft goddess you are and make a birdcage veil headband sorta like this:
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/44836460/sylvia-double-bloom-birdcage-veil?ref=sr_gallery_5&ga_search_query=birdcage+veil,+headband&ga_search_type=all&ga_page=6&includes=tags&includes=title

BUT! I would incorporate your blue- like maybe blue flowers or maybe blue birdcage veil material? How are you wearing your hair? Because I would say if you wear it down, skip the necklace. If it’s up- what about a necklace that is simple in front but has something cool in the back since it’s a pretty low back.

Such a beautiful dress! And those shoes are adorable. Knowing your craft skills, I know your veil is going to be awesome. Can’t wait to see the whole thing pulled together!

I love ALL of this. The dress is gorgeous!

I also wanted to comment – I have those exact shoes (not for my wedding, just cuz they’re pretty) except in a slightly blush champagne color, and they’re EXTREMELY comfortable. I think they’re lovely in blue.

  11. Ms. Sparrow says:

Thank you everyone! The comments have been really helpful. I am going to find a nicer thread, kick-ass cardigan.

I really want a mini-birdcage headband veil, but I don’t think it is going to work with my planned hair. I think I need a veil/hair dicussion post.

@Kelly- I was thinking a cardigan cause on weather.com the average for VT July weather is between 80 and 55. Since the wedding is outside and later in the day, I figured even if it is 65 at 9 pm, I will be a little chill. Maybe a stupid question, but what kind of necklace has stuff in the back?

@wildefae- I have two pairs of pretty much the same shoes (Target closed toe wedges) that I wear to work every day and they are super comfy. I thought they were really pretty looking and I won’t sink in the grass with a wedge! I saw the champagne color on Target and those are really pretty too.

Although I have seen neaklaces made to be longer/more ornate in the back, I have also taken longer neaklaces that don’t have clasps (they just slip over your head)or have small, simple, pretty clasps and worn them backwards. You end up with simple chain/cord/whatever in the front and long dangly bling-gorgeousness in the back. Im not sure if that’s what Kelly means, but it would work with your dress. Oh, and i love love love- the dress is so fantastic and whimsical!

  13. Blake says:

    or necklace, lol. whatever.

  14. AnnahLee says:

OMG! This is the dress I’m wearing to my wedding in June! I love love love it! You look beautiful.

  15. Ms. Sparrow says:

@Blake- thanks for the translation. I am so not a jewelry person though. You think I can get away with not wearing any?
@AnnahLee- that is so crazy! Can you email me a picture? I want to see what it looks like on someone else.

  16. AnnahLee says:

I have a few photos from my two fittings. How can i send them to you?

I had a halter added and buttons put up the back. I also purchased the dotty shrug from Rhom (sp?) on etsy. the fabric matches perfectly, but I’m still a little apprehensive about the amount of cleavage. I would be curious to know what cover ups you find!

  17. Ms. Sparrow says:

My email is mssparrow99@gmail.com. Does the dress show a lot of cleavage? Since it was too big on top I didn’t even realize. A dotty shrug like it would be adorable with the dress.

  18. AnnahLee says:

I just sent off the pictures.

The top was too big for me too. As they altered it to fit it became more revealing. You’ll see what I mean in the pictures.
    Hope this helps.
