My partner and I are super creative/crafty, so we decided to make our wedding invitations. We spent about an hour or so at our local Michael’s and found everything that we wanted. It was cost prohibitive for us to buy invitations and we don’t think they’re very ‘green’ with all of the random pieces of tissue paper, envelopes that don’t really seal, etc…. So, we will work on this crafty endeavor and I imagine it will bring us closer together!
We love that being queer allows us to do things differently and no one questions it. My partner has beautiful penmanship, so she’ll be handwriting all of them and I’ll end up making the reply cards and addressing the envelopes. We spent just about $120 for the paper for the invitations, envelopes, heart shaped hole punch, adhesive, and envelopes. Since we’re inviting about 60 people with the cost of postage – our total invitation expenditure will be under $200!
I highly recommend making your own invitations if you’re willing to keep it simple. If I had it my way we’d be buying super fancy letterpress invitations from a local company, but nope, gotta be realistic. Here are our invitations – I blurred out the official date of our wedding cause we don’t need any party crashers there. Feel free to check out the venue – it is gay owned and has a super fun back patio that we’re looking forward to transforming for our ceremony/reception.

This Martha Stewart heart cut out thingy is so worth the money. We're going to attach hearts to the invitation and put some loose ones in the envelope too.
All photos by me!
I’ll be sure to take photos of the reply cards once they’re made!

Sarah these are sooooo sweet! I’m so torn myself about the stress of DIY projects :-( But you’re right! We have to be smart about how we’re spending money these days and it is one of the easiest places to cut costs. Can’t wait to see more! (poor Nat is gonna need a hand massage when she’s done lol)
Those are cute!
I have to admit, I’m looking forward to doing STD’s and Invitations – I have already scoped out sites and started to order samples.
Can’t wait to see more!
She just asked for an extension into January to finish the invitation, so ut-oh!! I’m helping out as much as possible by making the return address labels, making the reply cards and getting everything assembled. I can’t imagine if we were going to be inviting a couple hundred people – whoa!
Very cute!! Congratulations!
So cute!
