Our DIY Ouija Save The Date
Continuing with our pseudo-Halloween/autumn theme we sat down awhile ago to ponder what exactly was the best way to do our save the dates. We brainstormed a couple ideas (punk rock flyer, leaves, little pumpkins) but nothing really stuck until we were discussing how it might be fun to incorporate Ouija boards into our centerpieces and my wonderful fiancé suggested we do Ouija Save the Date cards. I was so in love with the idea because while Ouija boards definitely fall into the spooky Halloween category the artwork on them is actually quite sophisticated and elegant. I set to work using some of my Photoshop skills to create a design. One side would be the Ouija board with all our info and on the other a sort of photocopy punk flyer-ish version of our favorite engagement photo. We printed them on a crème colored card stock and used a paper cutter to cut them to size.
Then we ordered Poppy colored 4 bar envelopes and Grape colored 4 bar envelope liners from Paper Source and address labels and purple seals from My Own Labels. Using a white pigment stamp pad and owl stamp I found in the dollar bin at Michaels (owls are a recoccuring theme in the wedding) we personalised the front of each envelope.
Then we set to work using a variety of hole punches and ribbon to create the planchete (the Ouija board mover, with the eye that highlights the letters the “spirits” want you to see) and a variety of confetti in our wedding colors (orange, purple, chartreuse and black)

We had been worried about how to make the planchete and had been planning to trace a small print of one with an exacto knife. Luckily my mom found the perfect narrow heart shaped punch (on clearance no less!) at Michaels to achieve the shape. We used a heavy set purple cardstock with a metallic sheen, punched the hearts and then used a second large round hole punch to make the “eye”.
Next we punched a small heart shaped hole in both the cards and the plachete piece and tied a thin orange satin ribbon to each side so the two would be connected.
Finally we tucked each card into the envelope with a pinch of our homemade confetti and sealed them with some glue and of course our super cool personalized seals.

So far they are a HUGE hit, people have been calling and emailing to let us know how much they love them and how original they are. I think they really set the tone and excitement well for the big day!

these are absolutely STUNNING. my gf and i occasionally bounce around wedding ideas and we almost always come back to halloween/autumn/october. collecting non-tacky inspiration can be impossible, but these are so fabulous!
