In keeping with the tradition of wedding themes, Tom and I decided on “travel.” Afterall, everyone was going to have to really travel to get to our wedding!

For the “Save the Dates” we decided to create a magent of a postcard-type photo. With the help of Photoshop and Vistaprint, we created this:

Then it was on to the invitations. With travel in mind, I knew what I wanted to create right off the bat! I wanted to create invitations that looked like Passports – with a few alterations of course. So, I started designing in Photoshop (with the help of a few friends because I had never used it prior to this – really). After about four months of running to my friends asking how to do this or that and spending countless hours at the computer, I finally had it. My favorite part of a real passport is the watermark-like photos inside. So I used the pictures from our trip in March for our own version of the passport invitation. They came out great and really added that extra oomph while simultaneously hinting to our guests some of the charms of PV (whether they knew it or not).

Then all I needed was to find a company who could gold foil stamp my covers. After a bit of searching online, I found this company in NYC and e-mailed them. Michael at Gailer Stamping & Die Cutting contacted me stating that he’d be happy to stamp them for me so I met with him and voila – complete. (Photos below by Marta Regulski)

Next was the RSVPs. Because all of us have to take a boat to the location of the wedding, how fitting to make the RSVPs an actual boat ticket? And how perfect for our travel theme, right? So I created a boat ticket with Puerto Vallarta in mind. Actually, the emblem on the ticket is the seal of PV. All of the printing I did myself on materials bought at Jams- this amazing store in NYC.

Here was the complete package sent to our guests (minus the groom figures of course:)):

This past month I have been pondering over our travel themed wedding cake. No matter what I just couldn’t really settle on anything that popped into my head. Then it hit me- luggage! So I did a quick google search to see if anyone had ever done a luggage wedding cake and look what I found:

The best part about this idea for a cake is the fact that Tom and I can create patches of our own to really personalize it! I am thinking a NC patch (since I grew up there) an “I Love NY” patch because we live in NYC (and Tom is from NY), a 4-leaf clover patch because we became domestic partners on St. Patrick’s Day, a patch of  Jekyll And Hyde because we met working at that theme restaurant back in 2000, and a Mexico patch for our wedding. I also want to design some sort of logo from our initials (think Louis Vuittan). I am SO excited!

Next on my list is to figure out the name cards for the place settings at the reception. I have a few ideas in mind (like maps or luggage tags) but nothing has really stuck yet. Suggestions?

This is so much fun!!!

Adorable photos – I especially love the first one of the grooms peeking at each other.

I think luggage tags are an excellent idea for the name cards! You could choose attractive leather (or other fine material) tags, and have them double as favors.
