From the moment we stated our planning, Tom and I began discussing the things that we hated about traditional weddings. One of the major items on our list was the guest book. Our philosophy on this topic was simple – why have a book that people sign only to bury it in on your shelf with all of the other books you own so that you never, ever see it again? We didn’t see the point and decided right then and there to come up with something different.

For weeks I searched online for something non-traditional that we could enjoy every day.  I found a lot of cool ideas such as pictures and posters and certificates that everyone in attendace would sign, as well as paintings of trees where guests would place ink on their fingers (being leaves) then stamp to symbolize their place in the couple’s “family tree.” However, none of those seemed to be the right fit for Tom and I. Eventually, we decided to wait until we were in Mexico to find something for people to sign. Scary – I know, but we felt secure that we could find something truly special and unique from Puerto Vallarta that we both loved. We were right.

Tom and I love art. Every time we travel, we make it a mission to find some amazing piece to add to our collection. For our wedding in PV we found this lovely mermaid which we asked our gusts to sign in silver marker upon their arrival to the island. She is made of wood, paint, twine and beads and I love her so very much.

A friend who got married this year said that she’d gotten the advice to buy a piece of art from their honeymoon so that they’d have something to remember it by–your mermaid puts the wedding & honeymoon together. Nice one!

It so IS, Jessica! For Christmas we tied a red ribbon around her fin and she was so Christmas-y. :) She’s kind of like a muse to me. I can’t stop taking her picture in the house. lol

This was very unique and made for great pictures at the location, Brian. Everywhere Matt and I turned, there was something unique and supremely you and Tommy. This mermaid was no exception.
