The last thing we set up was a test string of balloon origami lights and then left them on for the evening to make sure the paper wouldn’t catch on fire (it didn’t). At 2, it started pouring. The officiant showed up at 3:00. In looking back, I think she was probably my worst vendor choice. Some of the fault is my own, since we didn’t met her until the day before the wedding.  Also she was the worst only because all of our others were so awesome.

Our ceremony plan was very simple. As my aunt had a hard time walking with her newly broken foot, J and I were just going to walk down the aisle together. I had previously cobbled a ceremony together and emailed it to her. In the time between, I had cut out some more of it. However she didn’t seem to grasp what we wanted and kept asking about the walking order.

After the details had been sorted out, the food vendor showed up with 5 minutes to go before the food was supposed to be served. If you remember, originally, we were supposed to have a pizza oven, however after 3 months of calls and emails from myself and Vicki produced no response, I had to start looking again. I found the Brattelboro Farmers Market website and emailed all of their food carts about pricing. We ended up with Scudderly Delicious mainly because because she answered every email I sent within 5 minutes. It was such a great difference from the pizza place. The menu we settled on was beef and vegi tacos, peanut noodles, grilled asparagus, fruit salad, and the veggie platter with black bean dip (yum!).

However, I had not explicitly stated that we were a same sex couple when I contacted her. In the week before the wedding, she had some questions about who was getting married or if I was a boy (my name is not gender clear). When she showed up so late and in the rain, the meeting was very abrupt. Food was served a little late, but I was too busy to really notice.

People arriving to camp after the rain stopped.

My mom picked up the cupcakes at a bakery Vicki had recommended called the Crazy Russian Girls Wholesale Bakery. I am used to cupcake shops in DC where you go in and have a menu to choose from, which was not the case here. I was planning on getting a chocolate flavored cupcake and a fruit flavored cupcake, but there was no menu and the baker expected us to know what we wanted. J thankfully mentioned it was a carnival theme and we ended up with a lemon filling with lemon frosting and a chocolate with mocha frosting. I left not feeling very confident in our order, but look how amazing they turned out! And also super tasty.

J’s mom had got Watson a tuxedo, but he is too barrel chested for even the XL!  Look how cute he would have been!

When it was time for the caterer to leave, she came up to me and said how excited she was after realizing that she was catering for a same-sex vegetarian wedding. It made me so happy that I had misinterpreted those emails.

It was so great having everyone relaxed before the wedding. I stayed up until 12 talking to people, drinking beer, eating multiple cupcakes and the really garlicky amazing bean dip, and tried not to show everyone the inside of the tent.

It’s so fun to see how your wedding came together. Can’t wait for the next installment! I love the casual night-before-the-wedding dinner- especially the bonfire. I don’t understand why its so hard to convince our parents not to go all out on fancy dinner…
