On Wednesday afternoon, we went to get our marriage licenses. I was nervous about getting them because on the website it states to bring your IDs and maybe your birth certificate. I thought my birth certificate was in my safe deposit box in NJ, but it wasn’t, just a receipt of the registration of my birth or something. My real reason for wanting to see it was that I wasn’t sure if my father’s name was listed or not. I know his first name is David, but I can never remember his last name and I definitely don’t know what town he was born in. So with just our IDs, we walked to the front desk and said we wanted a marriage license.
They gave us a blue form to fill out and for my father’s information I put unknown.
Than we sat and waited while the youngest government worker typed up our marriage license on a typewriter. Here is J waiting next to a map of Bennington.
Here is J waiting looking at law books.
Here is the town vault.

After the waiting about 15 minutes, we got our licences. The first finished copy actually had J marrying my mom, but we got that fixed quickly. We left with our marriage licenses never having been asked for ID at all! Crazy, right? It was the simplest part of the whole wedding.

We had the very same experience in Quincy, Massachusetts last week…upon leaving the Clerk’s Office we realized we were not asked for identification! We were rather taken aback, but glad we were one step closer to our wedding!
Congratulations to you.
We got ours there too! That girl made me laugh because she reminded me of Audrey from Parks and Rec on NBC…She butchered my last name the first time around but she fixed it quickly as well. Was the cat in the office that day?
I couldn’t believe they didn’t want to verify that we weren’t cousins. I was super surprised by how young the girl was, I thought maybe she was a high school intern.
I saw the cat food and the cat bed, but no cat.
