We frequently joke that it’s like we’ve won the lottery — not once, not twice — but a dozen times in a row. How did we get so lucky to find each other?

Our friends joke, “every time they step into the kitchen together, it’s like they fall in love all over again.” Somehow, every day together has been better than the last.

Last November we decided to get married, and we couldn’t be happier about our decision or more excited about upcoming the wedding. With two men in the relationship, we weren’t certain who should propose, so we both did. I (Greg) made Carl a short video based on Dr. Seuss’s “Green Eggs and Ham” (we’re both suckers for Dr. Seuss) and gave him a nice pair of cuff links. Carl proposed to me while picnicking (I love eating outside!) — specifically, under a single, twisted tree atop a rolling hill (the real-life version of Dr. Seuss’ fantasy images, in fact!). His beautiful, heartfelt words were accompanied by a Dali-inspired timepiece. Dude.

We’re a pair of fun-loving, quirky, artistic, and intrepid guys, so we’ve done our best to reflect these characteristics in the design of our big day. Shortly after our engagement, we settled on a theme for the wedding festivities: “Settling down into a life of adventure.” Our theme has influenced many of our wedding and reception plans, in addition to our invites, website, honeymoon, and our day-to-day life together. It’s so exciting to wake up every morning next to Carl and know that with the new day comes a new adventure together.

A few of our plans for our wedding this summer:
* It’s a two-day bash. The first night we’ll exchange our wedding vows in the midst of feast and revelry. The second day, we’re taking everyone wine tasting in Sonoma Valley.
* The wedding and reception will take place at a beautiful vacation home atop a mountain in Northern California.
* We’re employing a do-it-yourself, adventure theme to the food and drinks. There will be “action stations” set up around the house to construct Mediterranean appetizers, make tacos, and mix drinks. We’ve concocted three tasty cocktails (a ginger beer drink, a tamarind drink, and a cucumber drink!) that are easy for our guests to prepare.
* We’re having two large, plain-white sheet cakes and a bundle of frosting guns. As an experiment in spontaneous group art, we’re asking everyone to contribute to the decoration of the cakes throughout the night!
* The day of wine tasting is a way for us to spend extra quality time with all of those who are traveling long and far. It will be a bit of a free-for-all… and definitely an adventure.
* Our registry is all about adventure and spending quality time together as newlyweds. It features items such as “Day of Hiking in Egmont National Park,” “Swimming with Seals!,” “Kiwi Watching on Aroha Island!,” “Camping on Mokau Black Sand Beach,” and “Ummm stunt plane flying?!?,” among others.

We look forward to the spontaneity of the event, and even more so, we look forward to formalizing our commitment to one another with the support of our friends and family. A lifetime of love and a lifetime of adventure.
