After our initial consultation with Cinderella Stories, Sandee (the owner) handed us a big bag of cakes to take home and have a party with. I think Deborah almost exploded from the excited! Personally, I love the idea of giving us cake to try in the privacy of our own home. This prevents possibly awkward situations like too many people in the bakery or not liking a certain flavor. This way we were free to make comments regarding preference or taste and not worry about offending the baker who worked so hard to create what we were tasting!

With our six mini cakes in tow, we invited all of the in-town wedding party to come by later in the afternoon to feast on the sugary goodness. We also splurged and bought a few bottles of champagne for everyone to have as well! If we were going to overindulge, we may as well do it with style, right? It was going to be a lovely chic little get together.
Overall, the cake tasting was great! We had an amazing time chatting with our friends and have since had a great laugh about all the things that went askew during our overindulgent sugar and icing extravaganza. I would be a terrible blogger if I did not impart to you, the reader, the most importing things I learned from our naiveté.
1. For the love of everything wholesome, have some food available that isn’t cake. After the second mini-bite of the Italian Creme, I instantly knew bad things would happen if we didn’t have something to cleanse our palate and cut the sugar. Thankfully, we rummaged up through our pantry and fridge and found some corn tortilla chips and carrots. I think it would’ve been better to have purchased some crackers and cheese, because honestly corn chips and cake is just a weird combination for your stomach.
2. Take your time! Even though we split the cakes into tiny little portions, there was still a lot of sugar being consumed. And I truly feel that ‘a lot’ is an understatement. We made the mistake of trying to just plow through, but ended up taking an hour long break to chat and let all the sugar course through our bloodstream.
3. Take notes. I got the idea of using a comment card from Ms. Sparrow (now MRS. Sparrow!) and it worked really well! Everyone took a few seconds after each bite to write down their thoughts and then they ranked their favorites at the end. Even though we all pretty much agreed on our favorites anyway, this was a nice way to remember each type of cake through our sugar induced haze.
3. Don’t drink champagne. No really, don’t. It sounds like such a good idea. So chic! So fun! It seems like a great way to turn a little cake tasting into a fun event, but don’t do it. Drink water. Lots and lots of water. The champagne just makes all the sugar more sugary!
In the end we chose Chocolate Tuxedo, White Chocolate Raspberry and Carrot Cake. Since one of our cakes is going to be three books stacked on top of each other, each book will be a different flavor! I am looking forward to more cake in November, but I think will go on a cake fast until then! I’m still sugar shell shocked!
I got dizzy during cake tasting. We had appointments at 11 and 12, then lunch at 1. Should have eaten lunch in between!
