When Nicole and I were in college we worked part time at a card shop in the mall. The weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day were always hectic as husbands and boyfriends fought over the insanely overpriced gift baskets. The day of was even worse and for fun Nicole would challenge herself to guilt a guy into buying the most expensive gift in the store. You would be surprised how many big ticket items she would sell! The not-so-fun part was that I often found myself helping guys pick out cards not only for their wives but also for their mistresses. The cards for their mistresses (yes that is plural) had to be the same cards so they wouldn’t get them mixed up, and also couldn’t use the “L” word. So needless to say Nicole and I are a little bit jaded when it comes to this holiday. However, Nicole and I exacted our revenge on the commercialized primarily hetero card industry! When we worked at the shop it was when the magnetic kissing bears were super popular, and when the boss wasnt around we would sit at the register and work on getting the magnets to flip so the girl bears kissed only other girl bears, and boy bears kissed only boy bears. It was my favorite part to see someone’s face light up when they saw that we had gay kissing bears! One year while we were setting up the shelves for the valentine’s season I made the mistake of suggesting to the owner that I could make the chocolate kiss rose buds we were selling. Next thing I knew I was headed to the craft store with her to pick up some supplies. While I was able to figure out how they were made I didn’t think about the sheer number I would have to make! My fingers still hurt just thinking about it! So I will now share with you how to make your very own chocolate kiss rose bud flowers!

Step 1: you will need flower stakes, red foil tissue, wire leaves, scissors, florist tape, and chocolate kisses

Step 2: cut the foil into 7x7" squares

Step 2: cut foil into 7x7 inch squares

Step 3: put two kisses flat side together

Step 4: put kisses in the middle of the foil and pull the foil up around them

Step 5: Insert a flower stake in the foil and twist it around the stake

Step 6: wrap foil and stake with florists tape

Step 7: Place a leaf on the stake and do a second wrapping of florists tape

Step 8: Bundle all your rose buds together and tie with ribbon!

This year Nicole and I got a hotel in New York City and we are planning on going to the plaza, drinking $30 glasses of champagne, and watching the jazz band that will play at our wedding perform!!! It doesn’t get more romantic than that! I hope all of you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!!
