I don’t know where I first heard the phrase “statement shoes,” but whenever it was, it stuck. From my lovely friend’s wedding where all of us bridesmaids and herself wore the same blue floral heels (and had multiple pictures taken of the pile of them during the getting ready!) to Harper’s Bazaar even having a Statement Shoes video, apparently saying something with your shoes is WAY in.

Like many a rebellious bride, I have to admit that white or ivory shoes never crossed my mind, but still I hadn’t thought about saying it loud and proud with my shoes! My love affair with heels has blossomed in recent years (although before it was really just dormant) while Alex has a contentious (read: balance) bone to pick with anything over an inch off the ground. And yet, we both fell in love (again)–with statement shoes. I’ll just let them do the talking:

As for how they’ll work with our attire, well, perfectly actually. I had decided I wanted dark purple kitten heels to go with my champagne silk gown in order to tie in my outfit a bit more with our dark-purple-tulip themed palette of colors for the UK wedding. I almost also bought the Alex’s red one for myself to wear with my red poppy dress for the CA wedding, but stopped myself for two reasons: they didn’t look as cute on my feet and I kinda want little sexy black heels for CA.

For Alex, she’s a bit torn as to when and where (and maybe you can help!). See, her suits are still to be made, but what she’s wanting is a cream suit (top/waist coat/trousers?) for the UK wedding with wing tip shoes of some kind. For the CA wedding, she also wants a cream suit (top/button up/jacket/trousers?), but this time with red accents–buttons, thread, pinstripes?–and now, these gorgeous wing tip red chunky heels. She absolutely adores the red shoes she’s bought (quickest shopping trip ever for the BOTH of us = awesome!), but is not sure she can pull them (or wants to) at both weddings.

Are red shoes too much with purple/green colors and her financée wearing purple heels? Are purple and red horrible together? (Does it actually matter!?) Or should she just wear what she wants?

    My dear friend Erica,

Imagine my delight to find your post on my lunch-time daily fix of SYE! Imagine my delight even more when it’s about SHOES!!!!…. Now you’re talking!

I love both pairs, and I can totally visualise you both wearing your hot shoes in your unique and beautiful individual bridal styles – Alex in her stunning tailored suit and you in your gorgeous frock!

Love them, love them love them!

I think that brides should wear whatever color shoe they want. How often are you going to put your foot by a centerpiece and asking if it matches? I love Alex’s red shoes, but if she is really concerned about matching, do they make them in any other color? I am a big fan of buying something I like in multiple colors.
