So I finally got my fiancee to go dress shopping, and of course the second one she tried on was the one she decided to get. I am having a little more trouble finding something that I really love. Sometimes I wonder if the shows on TV trick us into believing that when you put on THE dress you will just know. I have tried on a million dresses and I am still waiting for that feeling of euphoria. I have narrowed the field of dresses I like at David’s Bridal to two. Which is good but its a little frustrating because the one I really like everyone hates. Maybe I just can’t see how terrible it looks.
We tried these dresses on at a store in Michigan while we were visiting my family for Thanksgiving. I was pleasantly surprised at the number of dresses they had in my size. When I was at the store in North Carolina I gave the consultant a list with more than 10 dresses I liked and she only had two in a size I could try on. I was ecstatic that the store in Michigan had a few dresses for me to try on that even the website warned were only available in select stores. So the best place to try on plus size wedding gowns appears to be the midwest! The only downside to shopping for wedding dresses with your partner in a conservative super religious town like the one I grew up in is that you run into people who aren’t as accepting. We had a woman and her daughter next to us trying on dresses who were very nice until she started to put the pieces together. Finally she turned to us and asked if we were sisters, and I politely said no. Then she asked if we were cousins, and again I said very politely no. She wouldn’t be satisfied with that and pushed again asking if we were friends getting married around the same time. No, we are marrying each other I responded, and her jaw hit the ground. After she picked her jaw up off the floor she gathered her daughter and moved to the other side of the store, but That didn’t stop us from having tons of fun trying on all these dresses!
Here are some dresses Nic tried on:

Some I tried on:

The last two are the ones I am torn between. Thoughts anyone?

So glad you had some success at David’s! You too look great! I like both of your fav’s, but I definitely prefer the one on the right. I think the halter neckline and gathering at the bust is so flattering on you. Finding two bridal dresses that work for the individual and look great together is a challenge, and I think you totally nailed it!
Congrats! I also prefer the one on the right. The halter is incredibly flattering and I like the little touch of beading. You’ll be beautiful in whatever you choose, though :)
The one on the right! The one on the right! The left one is nice, but not as flattering and I LOVE the caplet top to go with the halter! Nic looks stunning too…
Well done for being up for the challenge of the conservative town and answering the woman’s persistent questions.
One on the right — very nice!
And aren’t small conservative towns the best?
With the caplet, you could add so much fun stuff! On etsy.com they have so many cool flowers and feathers and all kinds of stuff you could pin to it if you wanted.
I LOVE these caplets:

Oh etsy, I heart you. BTW, I agree with everyone else. The right one rocks!
Personally, I love pockets so I am partial to the off the shoulder one, but I agree with everyone that the one of the right looks great.
J and I get asked if we are related all the time. Yes we have brown hair and are white, but that is about it. I don’t get people.
Thank you guys sooooo much for your comments! You all totally helped me make my decision. I went with the dress on the right! I also got a sheer white shrug to go with it. I loved the etsy suggestions you had Kelly!! The dresses went together so well I think it was a good decision. I HAVE A DRESS!!
I really don’t get why people always think we are sisters. I think we look nothing alike but I can only assume they sense the closeness and the love which makes me happy even though they default to thinking we must be sisters.
