With the economy on rocky ground, I’m sure a lot of brides are making their floral budget much smaller. Carnations are probably the cheapest flower out there- and though they have a ‘cheapy’ reputation, if you do it right, they look great and modern.

But please please please don’t put one carnation in a vase. Singular flowers, except really expensive ones, look ick. I just went to a wedding were their centerpieces were a vase with 2 roses in it. It looked sad and lonely. Maybe they wanted to save $$ but they could have easily spent the same on almost any of these carnation ideas.

In Style Wedding Magazine had lucite boxes filled with mini carnation pompadours as guest cards- but they would rock on the buffet table or guest book table. A lucite box with a sticker on it that has calligraphy or something witty would be a very modern decoration. Then just put the pompadour in it. Simple. And carnation wreaths are really pretty because of the flowers fluffiness- this one is from Martha Stewart too.

Carnations make really pretty balls. I have seen them used as balls in a pool, or as giant lawn ornaments…but on the table they don’t have to be huge meaning you save $$.

Eddie Ross(anyone else watch Bravo’s interior design competition? he was in it) combines cake stands and carnations. Hotness.
