We’re the lucky ones.  That’s what we always hear from people when we start to tell our story.  We met in grade school (although the exact day is debatable…she doesn’t remember me even though she invited me to her Halloween party when we were 6!) and became fast friends.  We were inseparable, our chemistry was undeniable and a few years later we took it to the next level.  Fast forward 23 years later and here we are, almost 37 years old, more in love than ever and smack dab in the middle of planning a wedding.

I’ve worked in the beauty industry for 15 years doing product development – analyzing trends and coming up with new product ideas so needless to say, planning a wedding has gotten my creative juices flowing!  Jen is a sexual health writer and editor.

This is a unique time in our lives that we never dreamed we’d be able to experience.  Even though we feel like old married folk, we had a commitment ceremony in Jen’s parents backyard 12 1/2 years ago, we always wanted to have a legally recognized marriage and vowed to ourselves and to each other to have a big wedding if it ever became legal in our home state. Last May, our governor decided to recognize out-of-state, same-sex marriage in NY and needless to say we were over the moon and started planning right away!

Unless the law changes by September to grant us a marriage license in NY, we’re going to do the license part in Connecticut and then celebrate with a ceremony and party in our hometown of NYC at le Parker Meridien on September 6th — 23 years to the date of when we became a couple!

Since getting engaged on our 12 year commitment ceremony anniversary in August 2008, I have totally immersed myself in the wedding planning process. I am beyond obsessed with all things bridal, be it tearing swipe out of countless magazines, scrolling through an extensive bridal blogroll on a daily basis (and even starting my own blog) or being glued to wedding show tv. I am even considering a career change from the beauty business to the bridal world!  Wedding planning is a blast so far!…
