When J and I decided on having a carnival themed wedding, I couldn’t really think of what food would go well. Carnivals make me think of hot dogs, funnel cake, and popcorn, which while they sound tasty and greasy, don’t really sound like good wedding food for vegetarians.
J brought up the idea of having Indian food. At first, I was a little unsure about it. Not everyone likes Indian food and it didn’t really scream carnival to me. However after thinking about it, the two things started to click together. Besides the first time J ever had Indian food was on our first Valentine’s Day, so it seemed sweet. We had Indian food on Valentine’s, we got engaged on Valentine’s, and we get married with Indian food.
So I made an arrangement to meet with a normal caterer and an Indian restaurant that also does wedding catering. We will be meeting with both of them this weekend. However in September, I went to a street fair and saw this van.

How awesome is the van?

The Fojol Brothers call themselves a “travelling culinary carnival”. It was perfect for us! They are a carnival that serves Indian food! While they are a little cheesy (the server wears a turban and a large fake mustache), it fits perfectly with wanting the wedding to be fun. Being a bad blogger, I didn’t have a camera and we both were too full to try their food. So I waited until this past weekend.

I know it is not the prettiest looking food, but it was tasty. I especially liked the pumpkin. They have more options on their website, including a bunch of sides and Lassipops (yes, Lassi frozen into a pop, which sounds perfect to me). We asked if they would travel to Vermont and it turns out they are acquiring more vans so that they can travel next summer.
They also donate a portion of their proceeds to DC at-risk youth programs and they serve their food using only biodegradable and compostable products, so they are also the feel good choice.
We are still meeting with the other caterers, but as long at Fojol brothers are a reasonable price, I think they will be serving our wedding food.
So perfect! I would LOVE it if I saw a truck like this at a wedding instead of the traditional, boring stuff. Plus, the green and social initiates, i mean, could this be more perfect! And, you could always supplement with some other standard carnival fare, but I think Indian food appeals to a pretty wide audience, actually.
Lassipops? That is spectacular! This food looks awesome. Depending on how many are involved, we may have our rehearsal dinner at the Indian restaurant we went to on our first date. Indian food just prompts goodness all around.
I was worried about choosing Indian food, but something that makes my tummy that happy feeling cannot be bad.
yaaaaay and perfect. what a good looking truck!
This is an awesome idea! We’re having a truck cater our wedding and another one for dessert (yum yum icecream sandwiches)
BUT…the truck you have found definitely rocks the carnival style! SO much more awesome than your typical wedding fare.
perfect. perfect. perfect.
