As soon as I saw the work of Bloomz by Miranda, a florist in Indiana, I knew we had to feature her in a post! Bloomz by Miranda provides personalized, unique flower arrangements (no cookie-cutter bouquets here!). Not to mention she does it with a smile :)
How did you get into doing what you do?
Bloomz by Miranda has evolved over the past three years into a lot more than a flower shop. I combined my love and passion for floral arranging with an entrepreneurial spirit and Bloomz opened its doors in a tiny, 14 X 14 space in historic Irvington in 2006. Two years later, having outgrown my little space, a fellow artist and friend and I merged talents to co-partner Blooming Dragon Emporium (derived from Bloomz and Magickal Dragon Designs). Our logo is a flower-breathing dragon named “Snap” (snapdragon), and in a large, airy shop with periwinkle and spring green walls, over 30 local artists showcase their creations resulting in a one-stop flower, art and gift shop, the only one of its kind in Indianapolis.
What do you wear when you’re doing what you do?
Lots of color! I enjoy wearing long skirts, anything with paisley – eastern Indian style, and depending on my mood – ankle bracelets! This really helps boost my creative energy.
How is your business “pro-gay”, or how have you changed your business to be gay-friendly?
I wanted a place where people of all walks of life could enjoy the atmosphere while shopping for that special someone. Being lesbian, it is so very important that all couples can express their sentiments openly and have someone be excited for them. Bloomz has been honored to be appointed floral designer for many same-sex weddings, both male and female. I advertise on any GLBT websites; belong to the local GLBT Chamber of Commerce; donate flowers/services to GLBT events in the city.
What do you love about what you do?
My joy comes from seeing people smile, delivering a bouquet to a “new love” and watching the expression.
What’s one unique aspect of your work at Bloomz?
Flowers have a language all their own; and one of the ways Bloomz celebrates the majesty of Mother Nature is incorporating traditional Victorian sentiments popularized in the early 1900′s into a customized bouquet or arrangement.
Rave and picture time!
“First, we want to tell you how wonderful the flowers were at the wedding. They were better than anything we could have ever hoped for!!!”
