I have to be honest, at first, planning the reception seemed much more fun to me than planning the ceremony. But I now have a vivid image in my head of what I imagine the site looking like. I really want to get married under a tree with strands of origami cranes hanging down from the branches, like in the pictures below.

The only problem is that I didn’t take pictures of our venue, so I don’t remember if there are any large trees on the property. I started making cranes, but stopped at 50 so at not to go overboard with something we cannot use. I strung some of them up as an example of what I want to do.
Origami Crane Strings
Origami paper
Yarn Needle
Yarn
Ruler (optional)
1. Fold 5 or more origami cranes. There are many online directions, like this one.
2. To attach the cranes together, I used baby weight yarn. I prefer using the yarn because it has a nice bounce, which I think would look nice in the wind. Another slightly thinner alternative would be embroidery thread. If you use yarn, like I did, than you will need a yarn needle. As you can see in the picture below, the yarn needle, above, is about twice as big as a normal sewing needle, below.

3. Knot the longer end of the yarn
4. Then holding the origami crane, poke the needle through the hole in the bottom and out the top.

If you have creased the crane strongly when you folded it, it will be easy to poke the needle out through the top, where all six of the creases intersect as seen below.

5. Measure or eyeball 5″ or 6″ from the top of previously strung crane and make another knot.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 until the desired length is reached. In the picture below the gap between the red and blue cranes and the green and orange cranes is 5″ and the gap between the blue and green cranes is 6″.

The stringing of the cranes is really quick, but depending on how many you want to use, folding them can take a long time (like weeks).
