Any excuse for buttons and I’m in. Birthdays, holidays, marrying gays…
So you can understand my excitement when I stumbled upon these snazzy buttons by ButtonEmpire and found “Duo for Married Cool People.”
Behold, a Nerdy/Crafty Dynamic Duo:
First thought: Rad! We can get buttons!!
Second thought: Sad face. I’m gonna have a nerdy wife, not a nerdy husband (although some of you may have a nerdy husband or boyfriend).”
Third thought: Wait, I bet ButtonEmpire would make a ‘Duo for Married Cool Ladies”…
So I signed into Etsy and emailed ButtonEmpire to see if they would pin Alex and I “Nerdy Wife” and “Craft Wife” (ignoring the part of my brain that was complaining that I had to email at all). The response I got from ButtonEmpire’s Amy was even more glorious than I had hoped. She was dead chuffed to get our order, congratulated us all around (being from Canada where gay marriage is equal and everywhere) and the custom order was already up and waiting for me on Etsy–which I, of course, quick snapped up.

(Truth be told, we are both kinda nerdy, and Alex strives to be crafty. Maybe sometimes we’ll swap buttons too!)
While I am waiting for them to arrive, the lasting impression I have of the transaction is that the exchange between seller and buyer was more than about products. Sometimes it ain’t easy find quirky-wifey-gifts or something that screams “Lovefest!”, but it was heart-warming to communicate with someone literally on the other side of the world and know that in some places love means love and people are down to say it. You can bet we’ll be wearing our buttons (or badges, as they are known here in the UK) with pride.
Human rights aside, I’m still giddy over buttons. And, like “Dingmoonment,” I’m pondering buttons as wedding favors. Just so happens ButtonEmpire has those too. I personally like the Fauna and Flora ones, it’s just a matter of whether they go better with a river/sea English wedding or a field/barn California wedding…
